GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for assisting the educator with planning and implementation of educational programming for three
- and/or four-year old children which will reflect sound development practices and will be inclusive of the children's own heritage. This position is responsible to provide services in a manner which supports the early childhood care and education needs of all children enrolled at the Head Start Center (hereinafter, Center). Staff are responsible to ensure the Center is compliant with the Federal Office of Head Start Performance Standards and WI Department of Children.
This is a non-exempt position at 40 hours/week for 52 weeks/year (negotiable). Continuation of position is contingent upon funding allocations.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:


  • Build an understanding of the Center program by communicating its philosophy, mission, and services to staff, families, tribal leaders and the community;
  • Assist in establishing a clear philosophy and set of overarching goals that guide the program and the decisions that affect each aspect of the program;
  • Assist in identifying resource materials to assist with program implementation;
  • Assist in the development of a curriculum which meets the needs of all students and is based on learning theory and other cognitive psychology findings on how students learn and leads to improved student learning;
  • Assist with the preparation of detailed educational plans for each student which identify strengths, needs, resources, interests and special skills, and intervention/support strategies; Support the development of materials necessary to carry out lesson plans;
  • Assist in the Implementation and carrying out of lesson plans to assist each student in the acquisition of meaningful content knowledge;
  • Ensure educational experiences and strategies employed within the classroom are based on current research and include developmentally appropriate materials.
  • Support flexibility and encourages experimentation and innovation in learning;
  • Promote interdisciplinary approaches and the integration of curricula across environments when appropriate;
  • Foster each student's curiosity and desire to learn by providing engaging activities designed to increase their ability to reason and solve problems, offering both teacherdirected and studentdirected activities;
  • Offer each family opportunities to increase their own skills by providing written and verbal information as well as encouraging participation in classroom and family education activities.
  • Support each student's need to feel safe, and cared for while providing guidance in social interactions with adults and peers.
  • Help the Center program achieve its goals by staying informed of pertinent daytoday activities and adjusting own work accordingly.
  • Advance program practice by promoting a positive working environment and working collaboratively with other staff to understand and support the adoption of best practices for students, families, and staff.
  • Practice excellent customer service skills at all times to include, but not limited to, addressing customer and employee needs courteously and promptly.
  • Adhere to all tribal law, personnel policies and procedures in addition to departmental policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:


  • Minimum of an associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Human Services or related field from an accredited College or University is required (MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF DEGREE TO COMPLETE APPLICATION).
    Exception for those who have at least 6 college credits earned and agree to completing an approved education plan and starting school within 3 months to attain an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education will be considered.
  • Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with Center staff, parents of students, and other child support systems in the best interests of the students.
  • Ability to develop and efficiently and effectively carry out ageappropriate activities with enrolled students.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment by following health and safety procedures including universal precautions, frequent handwashing and sanitizing of equipment.
  • Ability to clearly communicate orally, in writing, assertively and effectively.
  • Ability to process information effectively, identify and define problems and make timely, objective decisions.
  • Ability to establish clear boundaries and maintain a safe, effective learning environment,
  • Ability to quickly evaluate and manage teen behaviors.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including a computer, laminator, and copy/ fax machine. Additional skill and knowledge of smart boards, iPads, and other advanced technologies preferred.
  • Must be dependable and reliable and have demonstrated the ability to maintain a satisfactory employment
