- Collects and retrieves patient health information for various approved research projects.
- Abstracts patient health information for entry into database.
- Serves as a clinical role model for research staff; orientates staff on specific research protocol.
- Devises and implements protocols and data gathering methods; oversees that study lab specimens for assigned project(s) are collected/sent in an appropriate manner.
- Creates and maintains study logs for effective trial management.
- Completes and submits IRB renewals and the reporting of all serious adverse events; maintains IRB documents and IRB communications in appropriate projects critical documents binder.
- Communicates with all employees, ancillary staff, and other health-related professionals who may be directly involved with project(s); maintains open communication with PI and administrative members regarding project issues until they are resolved.
- Coordinates patient retention activities for assigned project(s).
- Learns the protocols and computer programs as assigned; completes the duties as delegated by the PI in order to perform the procedures of the protocol.
- Plans for coverage of research project(s) with the clinic manager and plans for backup coverage for periods of absence or vacation.
- Collaborates with the PI to plan and monitor the recruitment timetable.
- Submits monthly recruitment numbers/results to the PI.
- Complies with Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and FDA Guidelines regarding clinical research duties such as informed consent.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate knowledge of IRB requirements to conduct research.
- Ability to assess educational needs and plan appropriate classroom content.
- Knowledge of low and high-risk neonatal Care to provide education.
- Ability to maintain open communication with West Tennessee providers.
- Knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, treatment, and medications.
- Basic knowledge of JCAHO and HIPAA requirements.
- Knowledge of computer skills and the ability to operate basic office equipment such as copiers and fax machines.
- Ability to learn new systems such as Nexgen and Cerner. Must have experience working in the NICU/Newborn Care.
- Ability to extract data and provide discharge summary for providers.
- Utilize nursing knowledge and skills in order to fulfill protocol requirements.

JOB SUMMARY/
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Research Nurse Coordinator leads the coordination of activities for sponsored clinical research in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology.
This position assigns project responsibilities to project staff and oversees the successful and timely execution of such activities in order to achieve not only the project goals but also the goals of the principal investigator and the department.

Three (3) years of research experience. Must have a valid Driver's License and auto insurance.
