Overview:


Provide individual career advising for undergraduate students across a broad range of industry areas and career interests with a focus on STEM career advising.

Our center offers one-on-one and small group advising within an educational/curricular framework that helps students to explore their values, strengths, and interests, and helps them connect to resources, people, and organizations to explore opportunities.

Additionally, the assistant director will liaise with various colleagues across the university, with a specific programmatic portfolio, to evolve based on student needs.


Responsibilities:

Undergraduate Student Career Advising (70%)

  • Provide career advising for undergraduate students on a wide range of career development topics including choice of concentration, skills assessment, internships, experiential learning opportunities, postgraduation employment and graduate/professional school planning in both individual and group sessions
  • Help students clarify their values, interests, skills, and strengths and think creatively about career possibilities which might involve helping them learn about emerging fields or investigating crossdisciplinary career possibilities
  • Assist students with the development of action plans and followup strategies based on a series of progressive meetings and about their evolving interests and goals
  • Help students develop and maintain a professional presence, including creating online profiles (LinkedIn and others) and showcasing technical projects
Undergraduate Student Career Programming and Campus Partnerships (20%)

  • Plan and facilitate a wide range of career programs and events, both for students in general and for students interested in pursuing STEM careers
  • Serve as liaison to faculty, academic advisers, and administrators relevant to programmatic areas of focus
  • Plan programs around the graduate admissions process and liaise with external graduate school admissions representatives to plan information sessions
  • Develop and edit student career resources as new needs arise
  • Identify STEM roles and events to include in monthly career newsletters
  • Field requests from student groups for STEMspecific programming
Additional Responsibilities (10%)

  • Contribute to broader team data collection efforts
  • Support team wide events including career fairs and departmental programs
  • Attend and actively participate in relevant Career Advising and Center for Career Development team meetings and retreats


Qualifications:

Required

Qualifications:


  • Master's or professional degree required
  • Two or more years of experience in undergraduate career counseling/advising, program development, and instruction/training
  • Knowledge of best practices within career development and the ability to tailor, adapt and evolve such practices to a complex, fastpaced, and dynamic team
  • A passion for advising undergraduate students and working within a studentfocused and student responsive environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace and in all interactions with all constituents and stakeholders and deep commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion goals
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to deliver effective presentations to a wide range of audiences, and build internal and external relationships
  • Strong time management and attention to detail
  • Selfdirected resourceful problemsolver who is able to make decisions in a timely and effective manner
  • Ability to manage changing technologies and communications
  • Comfort with change, ambiguity, and risk
  • Ability to gather, interpret, and report data
Preferred

Qualifications:


  • STEM career advising experience or experience working in STEMrelated contexts
  • Career assessment experience and certifications
