- Detention Deputy applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Associates or Bachelor's degree
- Military experience
- Five (5) years post high school employment history
- Enforces state and local laws and ordinances in assigned area of Sheriff's Office;
- Maintains security and custody of inmates;
- Uphold Idaho laws and jail policies;
- Assist with jail processing of inmates and appropriate confinement designations;
- Responds to calls in area of assigned duty and takes appropriate action;
- Prepares reports of arrests made, activities performed, and unusual incidents observed in a timely manner;
- Conducts both preliminary and follow-up investigations and collects evidence in disturbances, criminal incidents, hazardous incidents, vehicle accidents, and deaths;
- Verbally interacts with witnesses and victims, suspects, inmates and offenders to obtain information;
- Conducts examinations of persons, vehicles, premises, or areas to determine the presence of individuals or illegal activities or articles;
- Takes suspect or offender into custody and delivers them to appropriate confinement location, maintaining security and safety of individuals being moved from one location to another;
- Performs relevant law enforcement activities;
- Performs patrol, crowd control, traffic control, public information, and related duties during community events, celebrations, and related activities;
- Presents testimony and evidence in court and other legal proceedings;
- Maintains, cleans, and cares for County-issued equipment and vehicles;
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with County and Office policies, procedures and safety practices.
- May serve in other specialized areas such as community services, warrant service, SWAT or canine team, field training, reserve liaison, or other assignment;
- Works non-traditional hours; shifts are staffed 24/7 and must be available weekends and holidays;
- May be on call after regular duty hours to respond to emergency situations;
- Performs other related duties as required.

- Uphold the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics at all times;

- Make sound and reasonable decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and established procedures;
- Perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;
- Perform multiple tasks simultaneously, handle interruptions, and return to and complete tasks in a timely manner;
- Demonstrate integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks;
- Learn new aspects of police work depending on specialty assignment areas.
- High school diploma or GED equivalency required and some college courses in criminal justice preferred;
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Idaho driver's license;
- Idaho POST certification within one year of hire;
- Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a polygraph examination, through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, communicate effectively, interrogate and interview people, discern noises that may require investigation, and perform telephone and radio communication;
- Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions, perform surveillance, sight and shoot a firearm, gather evidence at crime scenes, and coordinate and conduct detailed investigations;

General Statement of Duties
Performs general duty police work in assigned area of Sheriff's office enforcing state and local laws and ordinances; performs related work as required.
The principal function of an employee in this class is to enforce state and local laws and ordinances, respond to calls for the protection of life and property, conduct investigations, and make arrests and to perform other assigned law enforcement and public safety duties.
Officers may be delegated to assignments in areas such as detention, supply, patrol, investigation, community services, warrant service, SWAT or canine service, training, courts, reserve liaison, or other assignment.
Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Sergeant and working supervision of a Corporal; some latitude is granted to the employee but work is subject to periodic performance audits and annual evaluations.
Some assignments are subject to stringent State and local guidelines.The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment or detention facility and/or an outdoor environment that includes exposure to adverse weather conditions and to potential personal danger.
