Summary


The Irrigation Technician is responsible for performing a variety of routine semi-skilled and skilled duties in the maintenance, repair, and construction of irrigation systems for the Association.


Essential Functions

  • Performs varied semiskilled and skilled maintenance duties in the maintenance, repair, and construction of irrigation systems; areas of responsibility, include, but are not limited to, installation, operation, maintenance, and inspection of irrigation systems.
  • Operates vehicles and a variety of tools and equipment used in irrigation installation and maintenance.
  • Inspects tools and equipment for safety and mechanical defects and ensures that they are in proper operating condition.
  • Evaluates assigned work projects, including materials and staff resources needed to perform the work; estimates time, materials, and equipment necessary for the successful completion of the project; acquires necessary resources as appropriate.
  • Receives and responds to questions and concerns from patrons; identifies issues and resolves problems or refers to supervisor as appropriate.
  • Follows safe working practices and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
  • Maintains records and logs.
  • Reliable and consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Remains competent and current by reading professional journals and literature, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as appropriate.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the company by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned, maintaining a professional demeanor and appropriate levels of confidentiality, and providing excellent customer service.

Work Environment


This position regularly operates indoors and outdoors with exposure to temperatures reaching well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit and below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Spend time using your hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools, or controls. Maintenance equipment used in this position includes hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment, and personal protective equipment.


Physical Demands


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have a full-body range of physical motion.


The employee must be able to:

  • Stand for sustained periods of time;
  • Walk about on foot to accomplish tasks;
  • Bend legs at the knee and come to a rest on knee or knees;
  • Bend the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine;
  • Extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction;
  • Engage in repetitive movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers;
  • Occasionally lift a minimum of 50 pounds of weight, and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis.
While performing the duties of this job, the communication and listening processes are essential.

The employee must be able to:

  • Talk to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word;
  • Perceive the nature of oral communications at normal speaking levels, with or without correction;
  • Receive detailed information through oral communication; and
  • Distinguish between sounds.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of irrigation maintenance and repair experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language.
