The museum, opened in 2006 and expanded in 2018, offers nearly 60,000 square feet of exhibition space to showcase its collection of more than 1300 works by 200 contemporary artists. With its expansion, Glenstone now has the ability to welcome 100,000 visitors each year, and admission is always free.
Position OverviewThe purpose of the Lead Facilities Attendant position is to oversee and give direction in performing scheduled and unscheduled cleaning, organization, and light maintenance of all interior and exterior, horizontal and vertical surfaces, fixtures, and waste stream of the administrative, support, food preparation, and public gallery areas; and to assist with transportation of employees throughout the museum site, primarily by driving the staff shuttle. This position entails full-performance, high-level work maintaining the museum's buildings and ensuring that cleanliness, orderliness, and attractive conditions are sustained to guarantee a healthy and aesthetically appealing physical environment.
Day-to-day Responsibilities

  • Supervise and assist in cleaning walls, furniture, windows, tile, fixtures, equipment, and floors.
  • Operate vacuums (upright and backpack) with attachments across all buildings; dust and polish specified areas and/or furnishings.
  • Clean all types of flooring surfaces, including stairs, and operate heavyduty machines like floor burnishers and carpet extractors.
  • Clean, sanitize, and disinfect bathroom areas; replenish consumable supplies such as paper and soap.
  • Clean, sanitize, and disinfect drinking fountains.
  • Clean windows and mirrors.
  • Clean and dust millwork, fixtures, door frames, and related furnishings.
  • Collect, sort, and remove trash and recyclables.
  • Perform setup for special events.
  • Maintain meticulous, organized, spotless work areas including offices, conference rooms, kitchens, galleries, loading docks, and storage areas.

Lead Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular team meetings to discuss operations, updates, and issues.
  • Attend departmental and crossdepartmental meetings to represent the housekeeping team.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations when required, departmental updates, training, and new initiatives.
  • Report malfunctions, unsafe conditions, repairs, and damage to equipment, fixtures, and buildings to the manager.
  • Operate employee shuttle as needed.
  • Pick up, distribute, monitor, and secure supplies and equipment.
  • Have knowledge in using housekeeping equipment, tools, cleaning agents, and preservation measures to maintain the cleanliness and organization of museum facilities.
  • Work with other employees in a dependable, collaborative, and effective manner.
  • Maintain open and responsive relationships with the Glenstone community, including guests, visitors, and other employees.
  • Attend New Hire Orientation (NHO) meetings to deliver housekeeping presentations If needed.
  • Ensure sufficient inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment to maintain uninterrupted operations.
  • Monitor and analyze the performance of housekeeping staff through regular evaluations and reviews to ensure compliance with established standards and procedures.

Required Skills & Experience

  • COVID19 vaccination and up to date on all boosters.
  • Strong cultural competence, interpersonal communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working in a fastpaced, frequently changing environment.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma.
  • Minimum of oneyear experience performing custodial work in an institutional or commercial setting.
  • Experience operating and maintaining equipment such as vacuum cleaners and floor machines.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to follow diagrams and sketches for event setup.
  • Ability to operate assigned tools and housekeeping equipment or be willing to learn.
  • Ability to work safely with chemicals and cleaning solutions.
  • Ability to lift and transport supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clean driving record and reliable transportation to and from Potomac, Maryland.
  • Multisurface and floor care training to include maintenance and cleaning of stone floors, terrazzo floors, hardwood floors, stainless steel counter tops, interior and exterior glass.
  • Experience working with automatic shades and valuable furniture.
