- Review domestic pleadings for completeness and ensuring conformance with statutes.
- Provide basic services to self-represented litigants for domestic case matters.
- Explain local procedures on filing, service and noting and confirming hearings, provide docketing and phone support.
- Review and assess problems with clients and make referrals and problem solve for resolution.
- Assist clients in-person with filing domestic filings and explaining general procedures.
- Provide basic informational services to self-represented litigants in domestic relations case matters.
- Explain local procedures on filing of actions, service of documents, the noting and confirming of motions before the Court and advise interested parties regarding status of cases and legal procedures.
- Review and assess domestic relations problems for litigants, ascertain the nature of relief sought, provide appropriate information on options for resolution and make referrals to appropriate service and support agencies or departments.
- Coordinate needs for Interpreter Services for non-English speaking litigants.
- Coordinate and prepare complex reports requiring technical expertise in assigned area.
- Maintain appropriate records to prepare and submit monthly statistics to the County Clerk.
- Work closely with judges and domestic relations commissioners.
- Assist clients in-person and over the phone, with filing domestic relations case matters; explain general court procedures and assist in setting court hearing dates.
- Additional education or experience may be substituted for the position requirements
- Two or more years of progressive responsible Legal Assistant work or related administrative experience is required. Domestic law experience directly related to the duties of the position preferred.

Holidays:
Some full-time employees are entitled to eleven paid holidays as follows:

Holidays:
Regular full-time and regular part-time employees, and employees occupying limited duration positions, shall also receive two additional paid personal holidays.
Paid personal holidays shall only accrue for those employees on County payroll as of January 1 of each year or the first work day following January 1 and must be taken during the calendar year in which it was accrued.
Furlough:
Some Pierce County employees may be designated to receive 10 "furlough" days per year in lieu of holidays. Furlough days are available for use on January 1 and must be scheduled and taken within the calendar year.
Employees who leave employment with Pierce County must reimburse the employer for used furlough days based upon the number of remaining holidays.
Sick Leave:
Sick leave accrues on a bi-weekly basis, at the rate of one day per month.
Insurance Benefits:
Employees and families are covered by medical (including vision), dental and basic life insurance. There are multiple medical plans with very affordable monthly premiums that offer coverage throughout Pierce County.
Employees are eligible to enroll each year in a flexible spending plan, which enables them to use tax-deferred dollars toward their health care and dependent care expenses.

Pierce County employees are members of the State of Washington's Department of Retirement System (DRS) and depending on the position or previous DRS enrollment will be able to enroll in one of many programs DRS offers.
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Nationwide Deferred Compensation Plan.
This is a supplemental retirement savings program that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
Social Security:
All Pierce County employees are covered by the federal Social Security and Medicare systems. The county and the employee pay an equal amount into the system.
