LEAD Charter School, NJ's first alternative charter high school, seeks an exceptional educational leader to join its community of educators. The mission of LEAD is to enable students ages 16-21 in grades 9-12 in Newark, NJ to master the essential skills crucial for success in postsecondary education, career, and community leadership within a global society. LEAD implements the Opportunity Youth Network (OYN) school model. Key design elements support the unique academic and nonacademic needs of students who have disengaged from traditional schooling. The innovative OYN model re-engages young people via active participation in rigorous and relevant content, and standards-driven, competency-based instruction aligned with emerging market demands. Through applied learning opportunities with partner organizations and corporations, LEAD prepares students to compete in the local economy and/or transition to postsecondary education.


Under the guidance and support of the Chief Program Officer, the Supervisor of Student Support Services Supervisor is responsible for the management of the Student Services component within LEAD Charter School including planning, organizing, implementing policies and procedures, directing and coordinating program activities and exercising control over general and specific program provisions: Student Support Services Supervisor, along with the support of other team members, will manage data and reporting for specified funders and serve as a support for LEAD Charter School student support team.

Supervisor of Student Support Services will report directly to the Chief Program Officer and Chief Academic Officer.

Qualifications and Certification

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Master Degree in management, operations, counseling, mental health, or equivalent preferred.
  • Supervisor Certification or eligibility required
  • Experience in the development and implementation of program management systems and procedures.
  • Three to five years of successful experience working in special education and/or its related fields
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, families, staff and community
  • Familiarity with alternative education and schooltocareer practices
  • Successful in creating collaborative relationships or coalitions.
  • Commitment to OYN school model and implementation with fidelity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including use of office productivity software.
  • Required criminal history background check, proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status & NJ residency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage operations aspect of the YouthBuild Program as an embedded program within LEAD Charter School;
  • Oversee the coordination and delivery of various student support services, including counseling, academic intervention, behavior intervention, socialemotional learning programs, and health services.
  • Lead a team of support staff, including counselors, social workers, psychologists, nurses, and other specialists, providing supervision, guidance, and professional development opportunities.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs and services to ensure compliance with legal requirements and best practices.
  • Provide supervision and support to teachers, staff, and related services providers, including conducting evaluations, providing feedback, and facilitating professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure Individualized Education Program (IEP) development and implementation are in compliance with federal and state regulations, including timely evaluations, meetings, and documentation.
  • Coordinate the evaluation process for students referred for special education services, including conducting or overseeing assessments, interpreting results, and determining eligibility for services.
  • With the support of supervisor create and manage programwide socialemotional procedures and activities that benefit students;
  • Manages Lead Charter School service delivery to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accord with specified objectives through review and interpretation of applicable guidelines;
  • Provides managerial assistance and guidance in the coordination of the program within LEAD activities with key partners, public agencies and detention facilities.
  • Ensure that all general education teachers know, understand and implement all classroom accommodations and modifications required by IEPs.
  • Directs, coordinates, or delegates to supervisory personnel activities concerned with program implementation and monitoring objectives;
  • Oversee the implementation and compliance of remedial programs related but not limited to IDEA and Title I
  • With the support of a supervisor, develops and updates Lead program priority plans and policie
