- Prepares medication orders of patient for dispensing. This includes all patient orders, unit stock, pyxis, controlled substances, and documentation, as assigned.
- Assists with monthly checks for expired medications in drug storage areas. Assists in the ordering and receiving of medications.
- Repackages medications for verification by the licensed pharmacist. Completes documentation to meet drug recall and inventory requirements.
- Must be familiar with, understand, and comply with all policies and procedures affecting the scope of responsibility as compiled in Inpatient Services policy and procedure directives and the pharmacy department's policy and procedure directives. Demonstrates knowledge of pharmacy operations.
- Participates in educational programs, mandatory classes, and demonstrates knowledge acquired through these functions. Also participates in annual competency training and assessment ensuring that all specific age group's pharmaceutical care needs are adequately met. Maintains compliance as appropriate with Inpatient Services and Pharmacy policies and procedures. Includes Cultural and Population-Specific Compliance, Corporate and HIPPA Compliance, Harassment Free Workplace, Time and Attendance Policies.
- Provides assistance in the delivery and transport of patient medications, leave and discharge medications, unit stock requisitions, and controlled substances to Inpatient Services patient units.
- Competent in the use of all pharmacy resources, including computer software and hardware and other technology.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health - Inpatient Services, G. Werber Bryan Campus, 220 Faison Drive Columbia, SC 29203.
As the Medical Assistant Technician I/Pharmacy Technician, apply knowledge as a student intern in performing under limited supervision, paraprofessional duties and to assist the professional staff of the pharmacy department of Inpatient Services in completing, under limited supervision, complex, highly skilled duties involved in the practice of pharmacy. Demonstrate an understanding, compassion, and sensitivity to the pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, and psychiatric populations that Inpatient Services serves.
Responsibilities for this Medical Assistant Technician I include but are not limited to:

A high school diploma and experience or training within the specific work area.
Additional Comments
The selected candidate must have a valid current registration with SC LLR Board of Pharmacy technician or pharmacy student intern. Knowledge of medical terminology and medications to include use, possible side effects and/or reactions, dosing information, etc. Ability to transcribe and/or interpret medication orders. Working knowledge of Federal and State laws regulating the practice of pharmacy. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others. Ability to lift/carry/push up to fifty (50) pounds. May be required to lift more during times of emergency. Ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, push, stoop, bend, and climb at least two (2) to three (3) flights of stairs. Must have manual dexterity. Provide emergency care (CPR) to patients of cardiac/respiratory arrest and utilize MAPS in specific situations as warranted. Possess a valid driver's license.
