Position Information:


Are you an attorney with at least three years of experience, a Virginia Bar membership or eligibility for waiver into the Virginia State Bar? Do you have experience prosecuting insurance fraud and financial crimes? If so, the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office is seeking a Multi-Jurisdictional Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney.


Specific duties include:

  • Making appearances in the General District and Circuit Courts of Arlington County, City of Alexandria, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, and Prince William County to prosecute felony and misdemeanor insurance fraud related crimes;
  • Serving as liaison among the Northern Virginia Commonwealth's Attorney's Offices and the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) on insurance fraud investigations and prosecutions;
  • Advising Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) agents regarding issues arising during insurance fraud investigations;
  • Managing an assigned caseload and overseeing all aspects of the criminal prosecution, including interviewing and subpoenaing witnesses, researching relevant statutes and case law, reviewing pertinent police and forensic reports, considering alternative and/or additional charges, arguing pretrial motions, and negotiating plea agreements;
  • Drafting pleadings, indictments, briefs, and memoranda; and
  • Conducting insurance fraud investigations through the Northern Virginia Multi-Jurisdictional Grand Jury where appropriate.

Selection Criteria:


Minimum:


  • Completion of the requirements for graduation with a JD in law from an accredited college or university;
  • Membership in the Virginia State Bar or eligible for waiver into the Virginia State Bar; and
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience as a practicing trial lawyer, including complex felony trial experience.

Desirable:


  • Experience prosecuting insurance fraud and/or financial crimes;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Familiarity with Prosecutor by Karpel (PBK) casemanagement software; and/or
  • Familiarity with the local procedures and practices in Northern Virginia courts

Special Requirements:


Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or willingness to use alternative modes of transportation.

The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record.

An offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.


Additional Information:

The pay ranges listed above are effective June 30, 2024.

This position is funded by the Compensation Board. The starting salary range is $106, $135,283.20.

Work hours:Full-time, Monday through Friday with flexibility for occasional evening and weekend hours as needed. Limited telework is available.
