What we want


The Veterinary Technician Assistant, under supervision, assists in the treatment of animals admitted to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital under the supervision of a professional staff member or Veterinary Technician I or higher.

Provides assistance to the professional staff and helps to maintain a sanitary and functionally well
- organized service within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. This position performs patient care duties including hot and cold packing, feeding, physical exercise, and other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience**:

High school diploma, GED or any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

2 years of related experience in animal care.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

-
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Basic computer skills.**
Preferred Qualifications**:

  • General understanding
    of equipment
    used in
    a veterinary
    medical teaching
    hospital preferred.
    Equine and
    Food Animal
    experience and
    handling.

Responsibilities:

-
Patient Care
: Under the supervision of a Veterinary Technician I or higher, provides patient restraint for medical procedures. Feeds and walks patients per clinician's orders. Observes and reports behavior problems or conditions that develop with animals while under our care to appropriate medical staff verbally and in writing with use of computer and the Veterinary Medical Information System. Performs basic sample analysis. Provides support to other services within the VMTH. Assists with patient restraint for anesthesia induction and recovery. Provides support for emergencies to VMTH.

needed. Provides
TPR and
administer IV
fluids to patients in VMTH.**-
General Technical
Duties: Records all medications administered, fluid types and volumes administered, information regarding urine output, mentation, appetite, and other parameters as needed in medical record system. Records changes in the medical orders, as directed by the clinician. Captures fees and inputs fees into the system. Performs laboratory tests
(NOVA, glucose level, PCV/TS, and lactate, CBC, and Chemistry). Provides life sustaining emergency care.
Assists clinicians and students with laboratory sample collection. May assist in other service areas based on patient and staffing needs.**-
General duties
: Maintains a sanitary and well-organized service within the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Performs record keeping. Restocks expendable supplies, drugs, and solutions. Cleans and disinfects treatment areas. Cleans floors, walls,
sinks, and
cabinets. Obtains
and maintains
ICU stock
room inventory.
Instructs, guides,
and supervises
students in proper clinical techniques to support patient care. May assist in various continuing education seminars or skill
labs. Performs
other duties
