PRIMARY PURPOSE:


A Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating assignments and schedules of bus driver routes and vehicles to ensure safe, efficient, and economical transportation services.

Record absentee calls and assign substitutes.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Required:


  • High School graduate or GED from an accredited institution
  • Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
  • Ability to pass alcohol and drug test

Preferred:


  • One+ year experience as a certified school bus driver

  • Ability to receive and give verbal instructions clearly and effectively

  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to maintain customer oriented attitude and emotional control under stress
  • Proficient map reading skills

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:


  • Answer, record, and route internal and external telephone calls.
  • Coordinate assignments of bus drivers, bus routes, vehicles, and substitutes for morning, midday and afternoon shifts.
  • Assist with or coordinate extracurricular transportation.
  • Dispatch drivers and vehicles and communicate with them using a telephone and twoway radio
  • Communicate with parents and school personnel regarding bus schedules
  • Maintain good public relations with students and school personnel
  • Assist with emergency situations
  • Maintain all required physical and computerized logs, worksheets, files, and reports related to dispatch operations.
  • Perform bus driving duties when required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:


  • Monitor and direct the work of bus drivers and attendants

  • Radio communication equipment
  • Multiline telephone system
  • Computer / Copier
  • School Bus

WORKING CONDITIONS:


The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, prolonged sitting, repetitive hand and arm motions, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.

This position will also require traveling within the district.


Mental demands:
Maintain emotional control, ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written in English for safety reasons


Environmental Conditions:
Work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperature (hot and cold) and vehicle fumes.
