    Description
    Position Title: Civil/Structural Engineer

    Location: Houston, TX

    Position Description

    The Civil/Structural Engineer is expected to be able to perform routine engineering functions with little supervision. Work is reviewed by a senior level engineer for accomplishment of objectives.

    Essential Functions
    • Assists in the preparation of Site Data Sheet
    • Assists in the preparation of requisitions for inquiry in support of purchasing Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings, Structural Steel for supports, Pre-fabricated pipe supports, and subcontracts.
    • Assists in the preparation of proposals for Geotechnical Investigation & Topographic Surveys.
    • Prepares technical bid evaluations for Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings, Structural Steel for supports, Pre-fabricated pipe supports, and subcontracts in cooperation with Procurement Department.
    • Prepares civil and structural calculations for the design of various civil/ structural elements pertaining to the project.
    • Reviews plot plans and facilities for Civil/Structural requirements.
    • Reviews vendor documents.
    • Reviews the discipline scope of work to be executed to ensure it matches project specification and/or the proposal documents as appropriate.
    • Accepts both short and extended term assignments to the site, client's office, etc. as may be requested by the Chief Civil/Structural Engineer.
    Qualifications
    • Typically 2 - 6 years of experience in engineering.
    • Knowledge of computer systems in an engineering environment.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    Education
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
    • EIT Certification preferred

    • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
    • Frequent sitting and operating a computer.

    • Physical demands requirements are at levels of those for sedentary work.

    ADDENDUM:CIVIL/STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

    DEPARTMENT FUNCTIONS

    Civil/Structural Engineering is a highly specialized group whose function is to provide design-engineering service covering:


    •Site Data Sheet - Prepare site specific data sheet listing the design loads viz. Dead, Live, Wind & Seismic and the environmental conditions.


    •Site Grading & Drainage - Develop the optimum grading & surface drainage system based upon existing contours, site constraints, local regulatory requirements & cost.


    •Calculations - Perform calculations and analysis for the following:

    Runoff calculations for sizing culverts and Erosion & Sedimentation Control devices.

    Foundation calculations for steel building columns, compressors, pumps, other equipment, pipe anchors & supports, cable tray supports, storage tanks etc.

    Structural steel calculations for pipe anchors & supports, access platforms, cable tray supports etc.


    •Standards Specifications - Responsible for technical content of standards and preparation of specification for the following:

    -Reinforced Concrete

    -Structural Steel

    -Pre-Engineered Steel Building

    -Geotechnical Investigation

    -Topographic Surveying

    -General & Select Fill


    •Construction Drawings - Approved for construction drawings and schedules:

    -Grading Plans & Details

    -Building Architectural Plans and Details

    -Erosion Control Plan & Details

    -Typical Details

    -Foundation Location Plans

    -Foundation Details

    -Structural Steel Location Plans

    -Structural Steel Details

    -Bar Bending Schedules
