The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc.
(WSFSSH) is a community-based organization whose mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with supportive services within a residential setting, which enhances the independence and dignity of each person.

Job Summary
Under the Supervision of the Building Superintendent, the Porter is responsible for keeping the shelter, residential units, and public areas of the residential building clean, neat, and organized.
What you'll do
- Regular maintenance (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping down walls, handrails, all surfaces, doors, and collecting garbage) of the following areas including but not limited to:
- Common areas in the lobby, all offices, staff lounges, stairwells, elevators, dining room, compactor room and laundry rooms.
- Sorting through trash to ensure recyclables are separated in accordance with NYC Sanitation regulations.
- Remove Garbage from Compactor Room, located in the basement, to the Front of the building.
- Sidewalk and front of the building is clean and free of garbage and hazards such as snow and/or ice.
- Regular cleaning of the elevators (including, but not limited to walls, interior and exterior doors, and elevator floor tracks.)
- Regular maintenance of all communal bathrooms in the lobby and residential floors (Clean all surfaces including toilets, sinks and shower stalls. Mop floors, empty garbage, assure adequate supplies of paper products and soap)
- Sweep and mop resident rooms and perform other cleaning and maintenances duties on a weekly basis or as needed.
- Assist staff with clients who are moving in and moving out of the Shelter.
- Upon moveout or room transfer, restore sleeping area to original movein condition.
- Accompany Exterminator on a biweekly basis.
- Report all repairs to Superintendent or Supervisor on duty.
What you'll need:
- High School Diploma, or equivalent, required. Higher education preferred
- Able to work in a multicultural and diverse environment
- Able to perform job responsibilities
- Able to speak, read, and write English (as required by DSS regulation
- Experience working with dependent persons
