We are currently seeking a 2nd
shift (3:00p - 11:30p) Vacuum Furnace Operator for our Ketema facility in El Cajon, CA.

What Does the Job Involve?


The Vacuum Furnace Operator performs identification of parts, set up and maintenance of equipment, and monitoring of heating and cooling, to accomplish heat treatment of metal alloy parts.

Establishes, monitors, and records first article heat treat process steps. Maintains furnace equipment standards through periodic testing, including pyrometry. Supports process improvement flowed down from industry and customer requirements.


What will my responsibilities include?

  • Monitors thermal process parameters in alignment with part process requirements.
  • Establishes, monitors, and improves furnace recipes as needed.
  • Operates control stations and areas in an automated or semi‐automated processing operation.
  • Prepares parts by abrasive blasting, braze layup, and/or cleaning prior to thermal processing.
  • Loads products to be processed on HT fixtures and positions load in furnace.
  • Creates and reviews furnace reports to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Examines parts for quality defects to promote quality and safety standards.
  • Works independently including monitoring and reviewing personal work to specifications.
  • Works to written or verbal instructions.
  • Maintains equipment by performing pyrometry and periodic testing on facility furnaces.
  • Creates and reviews pyrometry reports to industry and customer specifications.
  • Reviews and identifies customer and industry specification requirements in alignment with internal procedures.
  • Monitors and works to production scheduling based on department needs.
  • Demonstrates ability to appear for work on time, works overtime, when necessary, follows directions from a supervisor, interacts well with coworkers, understands, and follows work rules and procedures, works safely, complies with corporate policies, goals, and objectives, accepts constructive feedback, establishes goals and objectives, and exhibits initiative and commitment.
  • Communicates between departments and shifts to support production needs.
  • Supports departmental root cause and corrective action efforts.
  • Performs jobs required to support internal audits, industry audits, and customer audits.
  • Champions 5S, quality, and safety initiatives for departmental improvements.
  • Reviews implementation efforts and procedural changes in alignment with customer and industry standards.
  • Assists with equipment and processes related to thermal processing throughout facility.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the work area and ensures proper handling of tools and equipment.

What Key Skills and Experience Do I Need?

  • High school diploma/GED preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous training with Vacuum Furnaces and/or Pyrometry is a plus.
  • Ability to perform advance mathematical computations in Excel.

What Qualifications Should I Have?

  • 12 years of related work experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with materials testing, pyrometry, or thermal processing is a plus.
