    Description
    Duties


    • As an Interior Designer, position entails serving as a technical specialist in interior design for projects designed by the Transatlantic Middle East District (TAM) or architectural-engineering (A-E) firms under Government contract.
    • Responsible for making the final detailed check and review of the work; recommendations for technical sufficiency; coordination of details and design features; and, adherence to design criteria and established policy.
    • Responsible for design of projects which are extensive in scope and complexity, requiring skill, ingenuity, creativity, and/or knowledge of advanced principles, techniques, and procedures.
    • Analyze, edit, and coordinate any request for design or construction changes of any size or cost after award of contract.
    • Coordinate with architects and engineers in preparation of contract documents, which include drawings, specifications, and design analysis for a variety of complex military and civil facilities.
    • Make field visits to overseas project sites to advise on the feasibility and scope of improvements to existing facilities, from the standpoint of existing practices, materials, and cost considerations.

    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
    • Work may involve periodic long and short TDY to overseas locations in the Transatlantic Programs Center (TAC) area of responsibility (AOR)

    Basic Requirement for

    Interior Designer Education:
    Major study, bachelor's degree (or higher degree) interior design or other field that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design; or passage of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination

    OR Experience:
    Specialized experience that required the performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs
    in addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: GS-07

    Specialized Experience:
    One year of specialized experience which includes assisting architects and engineers in preparation of contract documents, which include drawings, specifications, and design analysis for a variety of complex military and civil facilities; evaluating design objectives, making calculations to identify the most economical and effective procedures for project development; furnishing to higher authority the technical cost information to support decisions on modifications to contracts; and addressing technical and user conferences and symposiums, when required
    This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05)

    OR Education:
    One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design

    OR Superior Academic Achievement:
    Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement
    In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled, such as that identified in Education above

    Superior Academic Achievement is based on: (1) Class Standing - Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; OR (2) Grade-Point Average (G.P.A.) - Applicants must have a grade-point average of either (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.

    Specialized Experience:
    One year of specialized experience which includes coordinating any request for design or construction changes of any size or cost after award of contract; using experience and initiative in applying and adapting practices where significant departures from established practices and precedents are required; developing technical guidance for use by installations and other design disciplines; utilizing judgment in applying and adapting established Architectural-Engineering (A-E) practices to develop appropriate details; and developing views and layouts necessary to show appropriate construction details
    This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07)

    OR Education:
    Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design

    OR Combination of Education and Experience:
    A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%
    To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12
    Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18

    Specialized Experience:
    One year of specialized experience which includes investigating failure of materials which are unsatisfactory from fabrication or installation standpoint to report on findings with recommended solution; checking contractor shop drawings for compliance with contract plans and specifications and properly annotate shop drawings; preparing sketches, change drawings and specifications to eliminate potential problems; overseeing demonstrations by manufacturers' representatives; and reviewing contract drawings, specifications, and related data on questions raised by other personnel involving the intent of those documents
    This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09)

    OR Education:
    Ph.
    D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design

    OR Combination of Education and Experience:
    A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%
