POSITION GOAL:


The School Nutrition Operations Associate A position is responsible for assisting the School Nutrition Supervisor, in the leadership, management and fiscal responsibility of all USDA child nutrition programs including: Breakfast, Lunch, CACFP-Afterschool Supper, Afterschool Snack, FFVP-Fresh Fruit Fresh Vegetable Program and Summer Feeding Program following all USDA regulations and regulatory guidelines.

This position will have supervisory responsibility, including but not limited to, the direct responsibility for making operational decisions as well as direct communication with the nutrition services staff, school and district leadership and parents/stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelors of Science in food service management or nutrition, Registered Dietitian preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years management experience in USDA Child Nutrition Programs
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the USDA Child Nutrition Program's regulations and requirements at the Federal and State level.
  • Possesses cooperative attitude and ability to work well with students, buildinglevel personnel, and district
- level co-workers.

  • Detailed oriented, evidence of managing staff and multiple priorities, communicates effectively, ability to handle stressful situations and remain calm in emergency situations.
  • Highly Motivated, demonstrates willingness to assume additional responsibilities, flexible with schedule.
  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical and editing skills.
  • Proficient in Technology: Microsoft Office Applications, Point of Sale software.
  • Possesses a valid driver's license, vehicle for transportation and the physical ability to perform the above responsibilities.
  • Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Abuse Registry.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the position

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Oversees all aspects of all USDA child nutrition programs and commodity distribution programs and keeps the Nutrition Service Supervisor and building level managers informed of all pertinent information.
  • Coordinates with other department specialists and site managers regarding staffing, training, purchasing & procurement, inventory control, menu development, menu analysis, recipe documentation, safe food prep & production, and customer service.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Colonial Food Service Association contract, participates in contract negotiations.
  • Investigates employee issues, conducts employee disciplinary processes and monitors employee productivity.
  • Conducts Nutrition Services Manager and Nutrition Services Courier Evaluations and assists with cafe employee evaluations.
  • Responsible for updating Employee and Manager Handbook, HACCP & Standard Operating Procedures and other department protocols on an annual or as needed basis.
  • Conducts kitchen performance audits to improve the overall functions of the kitchen. Addresses and develops corrective action plans pertaining to the audit results.
  • Provides direction and technical support for POS, inventory and production software.
  • Works directly with vendors and handles all issues related to orders and vendor concerns.
  • Ability to create and comprehend department financial and data reports as they relate to the overall operation of the department. Ensures that cost control measures are in place to maintain fiscal responsibility.
  • Assists in maintaining the District Wellness Policy
  • Assists in recruiting, interviewing, hiring and training process for the nutrition services department.
  • Shall perform other related duties and/or assume additional responsibilities as needed or assigned by the School Nutrition Supervisor.
  • Assumes responsibility for Supervisor when absent.
