Provide services as a Biologist in support of the overall functions of the Vaccine Production Program (VPP), Vaccine Research Center (VRC) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Purify researchphase recombinant proteins, virus vaccines and/or viruslike particles in support of other groups or external collaborators.
  • Perform _In vitro _Transcription (IVT) and mRNA purification at multiple scales.
  • Work to prepare necessary materials (buffers, packed columns, etc.) in support of downstream process activities.
  • Support technology transfer of processes to Lab's Pilot Plant for manufacture of clinical product through document generation and onsite support.
  • Write and review technical protocols and reports.
  • Analyze and compile data, present at various group/department meetings.
  • Collaboratively build and execute highthroughput purification processes on TECAN, Sartorius, and other automated process development platforms.
  • Support process development activities by generating data from a wide variety of traditional and highthroughput analytical modalities such as SDS-PAGE, and UV/Vis/Fluorimetry assays.
  • Design, test, and implement data transformation, modeling, and analysis pipelines, to include development of custom programs written in Python, Matlab, or Perl, etc.
  • Assist the development, and implementation of digital informatics systems for the downstream purification department.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of two to five (25) years of experience in recombinant protein, pDNA, and mRNA purification development for GMP clinicalphase products.
  • Experience with In vitro Transcription (IVT) and mRNA purification.
  • Experience using highthroughput bioprocessing systems such as TECAN.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of maintaining accurate and detailed records.
  • Familiarity with computer software including word processing and data evaluation.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with nontechnical and technical staff.
  • Must be a team player who can effectively work with members from crossfunctional departments.
  • Detailoriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
