This is a part-time civilian position that combines community engagement, problem-solving, and civic duty to create a dynamic and fulfilling role.
As a vital member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work independently to enforce and investigate parking violations and ensure compliance with municipal ordinances.
The starting salary for this position is $15.00 to $20.57 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. Effective June 16, 2024, the starting salary band will increase to $ $21.51. Part-Time
20 Hours per week - days of the week will vary
2:45 a.m. - 6:00 a.m. during weekday hours and 1-2 shifts will fall on the weekend
Essential Functions:
- The following are normal for the position but shall not be construed as exclusive or inclusive. Other related duties may be required and assigned.
- Patrol city streets and municipal parking lots in a city vehicle, enforcing parking laws and ordinances
This process includes:
checking times zones, marking vehicles, entering information into a hand-held computer, affixing citations to vehicles, and communicating via two-way radio, and interacting with citizens and complainants.
- Investigate parking complaints assigned by police dispatch and take appropriate enforcement action.
- Recognize and report any situation or violation during patrols which requires investigation by a police officer.
- Post temporary no parking signs for special events when needed.
- Assist with deliveries between City of Wauwatosa buildings
Other Job Functions
- Appear in court and testify as a witness in contested parking cases.
Minimum Requirements:
- HS Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to operate twoway radio
- Ability to work in various weather conditions
- Ability to pass police department background check
- Ability to interact with and diffuse angry or agitated individuals
Preferred Requirements
- Previous law enforcement education, training and/or work experience highly preferred
