    Job Purpose

    We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented individual to join our growing stem cell research group as a Research Associate. This candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, differentiation, and functional analysis of pluripotent stem cell (PSC) lines and their derivatives to support the development of cell-based therapeutics. The candidate should be familiar with the concept of Design of Experiments (DOE).

    Key Responsibilities

    General:

    • Participate in the design, planning and execution of experiments.
    • Make observations, analyze results, and maintain a detailed laboratory journal.
    • Summarize results and create presentations for internal group meetings.
    • Work with other members of the research team and within GCTx to accomplish company goals.
    • Follow all safe laboratory practices and company policies.

    Experimental Techniques:

    • Execute experiments to support Cell Line Development and Scale up of PSC-derived cells.
    • Perform experimental endpoint analysis on iPSC and differentiated derivatives including flow cytometry, RT/dd-PCR and microscopy.
    • Support key lab processes, such as formulating culture media and preparing aliquots.
    • Collaborate with PD and R&D teams to transfer procedures and protocols between teams.
    • Assist PD scientists in execution of experiments.
    • Effectively communicate results, in both written format and oral presentations.
    • Follow concise protocols for reproducibility of cell culture processes.
    • Maintain extensive records based on CMC guidelines.
    • Perform DOE studies, when necessary, to optimize parameters affecting engineered cell line differentiation and stability.

    Qualifications

    Essential Qualifications:

    • BSc with 3+ years or MSc with 1+ years of relevant industry experience in molecular and cellular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, or related discipline.
    • Experience with PSC cell culture, expansion, banking, and differentiation is a must.
    • Hands-on experience in molecular biology laboratory techniques.
    • Hands-on experience in analytical techniques relevant to the characterization of PSCs.
    • Strong project management and organizational skills, with ability to prioritize and multitask.
    • Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work in a laboratory environment approximately 75% of the time including weekend hours.

    Additional Qualifications:

    • Hands-on experience with multi-tray flasks is desirable.
    • Experience with Single-Use technologies is desirable.
    • Experience in gene expression analysis and next generation sequencing is desirable.
    • Familiarity with techniques used to measure genome integrity and off target characterization is desirable.
    • Familiarity with automation and cell cloning.
    • Ability to conduct high quality presentations at internal meetings.
    • Familiarity with working in cleanrooms under cGMP guidelines is desirable.
    • Basic knowledge of cell culture manufacturing principles, risk assessments (FMEA), Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) principles, and tech transfer.
