Summary of Position:

Under general supervision, assists in financial management, customer relations, meeting operational obligations, as well as personnel responsibilities including but not limited to conflict resolution, progressive discipline, performance evaluations and staffing.

Performs all functions of a laboratory support specialist. Oversees training of new employees in phlebotomy waived testing/Point of Care (POC) and lab support functions. Assumes responsibility for day-to-day lab support activities. Works with UC and PSC site leadership in the efficient utilization of staff across departments.


Primary Job Responsibilities:

Leadership:Responsible for providing guidance to lab support coordinator concerning lab support departmental responsibilities including POC, PSCs, and staff oversight. Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings and distribution of meeting minutes. Reviews turnaround times and volumes to assess staffing needs across all hours of operation. Works with interdepartmental teams to improve processes and systems. Assists with updating policies/procedures and development of new policies/procedures for newly introduced services or processes_. _Maintains enhanced physician practice, patient and staff relations, and service recovery, creating an environment conducive to maximizing internal and external customer satisfaction.

Operational Management:Oversees the daily operations of POC, PSC and Urgent Care. Supervises specimen intake of outreach specimens, specimen processing and batching to the Main Lab. Ensures sufficient supplies for the department. Performs monthly PSC audits and assists with POC audits to review regulatory standards. Participates in regulatory inspections.

Financial Management: Acts as a liaison with all Saratoga hospital facilities, ensuring sufficient staff coverage both immediately and in the future by participating in the budgeting process. Periodically reviews lab support staffing to determine if schedules reflect patient demand, and works with manager to make appropriate changes. Provides explanation of variances related to FTE overages and month end budget reports. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility through cost and inventory control. Problem solves staffing changes during times of emergency to cover all areas.

Quality Assurance:Monitors quality/quantity of patient interaction, accessioning accuracy, and shares data with phlebotomy staff to motivate improvement targeted to positively affect patients' experiences.


Minimum Qualifications:
Associates Degree preferred. In lieu of degree, five to seven years of phlebotomy experience, preferably in a hospital environment, leadership experience required.


Salary Range:
$ $40.96

Pay Grade: 28

Compensation may vary based upon, but not limited to: overall experience and qualifications, shift, and location.
