Direct Care Staff
The Direct Care Staff position provides oversight and direct services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This position helps to ensure all programmatic features of the client's Individual Support Plan are implemented, monitored, and executed in the most consistent, nurturing, and professional manner.

A Direct Care Staff provides assistance and support to clients who need help with daily tasks.

The Direct Care Staff provides direct care services and aid to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing for the participants' needs in daily living and those skills necessary for community life.

The specific duties and responsibilities of a direct care worker may vary depending on the setting and the needs of the individuals they are working with.

However, some of the common responsibilities of a direct care worker include:


  • Assist clients in meeting his/her personal care and nutritional needs
  • Assist and support clients using "person centered planning" strategies as stated in their Support Plan
  • Be familiar with your clients ADT goals on their Support Plans, and document their progress on daily notes
  • Maintain clients rights & privacy by complying with HIPPA
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures necessary to assure the health and safety of clients, including behavioral plans & evacuation procedures
  • Provide a secure and responsive environment so that each client may have the opportunity to maximize his/her physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual capabilities
  • Assist clients with life skills training to include: personal decisionmaking, health and hygiene, farm/work related experiences, bathroom assistance as needed, community outings, meaningful day activities
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of and adherence to company Policies and Procedures
  • Complete required trainings and update trainings and background information prior expiration dates
  • Complete client daily attendance logs and daily notes accurately
  • Arrive on time each day and assist with client drop off and pick up
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain ethical relationships with coworkers, clients, and their families
  • Understand and practice Organization's philosophy and mission
