The School of Education is currently seeking a Summer Counselor - Upward Bound Math - Science to join their team of professionals


Duties include:

  • The Summer Counselor will instruct and supervise young children in academic activities, recreational activities, sports/athletics, arts & crafts, music, and special events during our 5week summer program.
  • Be flexible and able to work well with others while maintaining open and effective communication. Be patient, energetic, fun loving and hardworking.
  • Assist in creating daily and weekly camp activity schedules and then follow the schedule once it is developed; must have flexibility to make adjustments to schedule as needed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the campers.
  • Perform frequent head counts of campers, particularly when in route from one activity to the next.
  • Stay uptodate on all camprelated matters and communicate with camp leadership as needed
  • Attends mandatory trainings as required.

Desired Qualifications:


  • Major in Natural or Social Sciences, or related field and experience working with children and teenagers.
  • Undergraduate Sophomore (Minimum)
  • Supervisory Experience
  • Leadership Ability
  • Interpersonal Communication, and Conflict Resolution Skills
  • Strong ability to work in a team setting

Student Disclosure:


  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
