What you will do
Let's do this. Let's change the world. In this vital role you will report to the Program Lead. We are at the hinge moment of time where biotechnology and artificial intelligence technology meet.

The program is part of the Technology & Workforce Strategy and will serve as a transformative program for Amgen to develop an innovation and technology center.

The scope of work includes assisting the global functions through their workforce strategy journey.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing novel data driven analytics to support innovation.

With these analytics capabilities you will make robust inferences to transform our business, ensure critical financial and workforce analysis impacting the lives of our patients.


In this role, the Data Science Director will assist in a wide range of activities such as developing automation, curating and visualizing complex datasets, developing & recommending novel machine learning tools.

The Data Scientist Director will collaborate with other data scientists, business SMEs, and IT professionals to develop workflows and infrastructure to enable development of a baselining and long range financial planning tools, business cases and value capture modeling, and connecting the gamut of cross functional and finance data for ongoing transformation.


Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the data and analytics team for development of the financial business cases
  • Independent and team development/implementation of analytics workflows to manipulate large and complex databases from diverse sources, including real world data
  • Lead a team to create striking visualizations to aid in data interpretation
  • Constantly iterate with the business on analysis and analytical product design to ensure all necessary features and data are robust
  • Partner with IT and Data Engineers to ensure that the models are robust, functional, and relevant to business needs
  • Provide thought leadership, guidance and advice to shape the future of modeling data for this program
  • Mentor other Digital/Data Science staff and consultants through the program
  • Ability to go into the Thousand Oaks, CA office on a regular basis

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Data Science experience


Or:

Master's degree and 7 years of Data Science experience


Or:

Bachelor's degree and 9 years of Data Science experience


Qualifications:


  • Proficiency in Python and SQL coding
  • Experience processing, filtering, cleaning, and standardizing large datasets.
  • Ability to restructure, pivot, and reform data based on current needs
  • Experience with Python data libraries such as Numpy and Pandas.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience working in an Agile teams to produce complex Digital Products
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Matplotlib, and Spotfire.

Preferred Traits:


  • Passion for data exploration & visualization, and building narratives to drive datadriven business transformation
  • Intellectual curiosity, with ability to learn new concepts, and methods
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in parallel
  • Track record of delivering high quality work in an organized, and prompt fashion
  • Experience working in highly collaborative crossfunctional environments

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
