Founded in 1977, CASA is the official 501c3 domestic violence center based in Pinellas County, FL.

We operate the area's 24-hour hotline and emergency shelter; non-residential programs, such as support groups, economic empowerment and legal advocacy; Child Protective Investigative Team support; community and corporate training; and the CASA Peacemakers anti-bullying and healthy relationship school curriculum.


Position Title:
Justice Advocate


Reports to:
Justice Advocate Supervisor


Major Function:
To provide criminal and civil advocacy to survivors of domestic violence and their children.


All employees of Community Action Stops Abuse are considered "essential" and as such may be required to remain onsite and/or required to assist during emergencies and other critical times.


Illustrative Duties:


  • Provide support, advocacy, crisis intervention, case management, danger assessment, and resources to survivors of domestic violence following the empowermentbased advocacy model.
  • Carry an assigned caseload and meet with participants on a regular basis to provide resources, advocacy, and ongoing safety planning.
  • Work with survivors to assist them with assessing their needs and goals, and help them develop a plan to achieve their goals.
  • Attend criminal and civil court hearings with survivors or on their behalf at the request of the survivor.
  • Attend DV related court hearings to identify survivors in the courtroom and offer services and support.
  • Keep survivors informed of upcoming court dates and what to expect for court hearings.
  • Review police reports and reach out to survivors to offer services.
  • Assist survivors with completing the injunction packet.
  • Assist survivors with the victim compensation and address confidentiality program as needed.
  • Coordinate transportation for survivors to get to court as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with the State Attorney Office, the Clerk of the Courts, Law Enforcement organizations, Child Protection, and all other community partners to enhance victim safety and perpetrator accountability.
  • Complete all required documents, paper work, reports, and data entry in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate support groups or empowerment based workshops as requested by your supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in case conferences, staff meetings, trainings, community meetings and presentations as requested by your supervisor.
  • Assist with training and assisting CASA volunteers and interns.
  • Provide assistance to any program areas at CASA as requested by management.
  • Perform special projects and all other duties as assigned.

General:


  • Understand and abide by CASA's Confidentiality Policy at all times and respect boundaries.
  • Understand and abide by all CASA's Policies and Procedures at all times.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to treat participants, volunteers, community partners, and coworkers in a respectful manner at all times.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Complete CORE Competency Training within 90 days of hire.
  • Complete 16 hours of training annually.
  • Agree to work a flexible schedule, which may include changing schedules based on the needs of a survivor.
  • Regular work attendance, including punctuality.

Qualifications:


  • Two years of college education
    or 2 years ofequivalent related work, educational, volunteer, or life experience preferred
    or a minimum of oneyear proven success in a current CASA direct service position.
  • Have the ability to function independently and work cooperatively as a team member.
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence or other crisis or social service experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of community resources and the ability to maintain working relationships with other agencies.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Must have direct access to reliable transportation during all working hours.
  • Willingness to drive agency vehicles, as needed.
  • Valid Florida State Driver's License and proof of auto insurance verified annually.
  • Participate in both CASA and State Attorney criminal background check.

Pay:
$ $20.00 per hour
