***The Director of Student Life and Experiential Learning (DSLEL) at Sinai Akiba Academy oversees student life and experiential learning for the school's Kinder-8th grade student body. The DSLEL is responsible for implementing the character/emotional wellness curriculum, ensuring that students are provided with opportunities to learn and grow, to be their best selves, and to explore activities outside of their traditional classrooms. This role partners with the Director of Jewish Life to set the tone and maintain the positive student culture of SAA and upholds the School's core values and mission. The DSLEL will be an experienced leader, a good listener, an empathetic problem-solver, and a clear communicator. Sinai Akiba Academy is, above all else, a community, and the DSLEL will interact with all constituencies (students, teachers, administrators and parents) on a daily basis.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Advising & Student Wellness

  • Oversee advisors and advisory curriculum and pedagogy including MS advisor training, development, and efficacy of program
  • Oversee Student SEL & Behavioral Wellness and related record maintenance
  • Consult with School Counselor as well as Director of Student Support and other Administrative Team members to ensure support for students of consideration
  • Support and oversee the implementation of the K8 RULER SEL program and standardized protocols for student support and safety
  • Work closely with the Senior Administrative Team members to address SELrelated challenges and support systemic SEL delivery in the school
  • Coach students and parents for growth and development re: social/emotional/behavioral health and wellness of students

Discipline

  • Oversee (and in partnership with) other administrators and teachers to enforce all rules, procedures and regulations involving students (including student safety)
  • Communicate to the SAA community regarding tone and behavior as needed
  • Oversee disciplinary process to ensure equity, clear communication, and accountability

Student Life

  • Work alongside the Director of Jewish Life to implement strategy towards meeting the SAA Strategic Vision regarding Student Life
  • Articulate and advocate for the ways in which the student life experience is evolving in our rapidly changing world, shaping the implementation of SAA's strategy
  • Model creativity and collaboration in developing the Student Life curriculum and policies while bringing community members (Faculty, Administration, parents and students) together
  • Act as a bridge across constituencies through strong relationship building skills
  • Maintain the calendar and approve student activities (i.e., Student Leadership, field trips, and clubs)
  • Ensure appropriate supervision at schoolstudent functions, including recess/lunch, assemblies, and other community events
  • Work closely with MS Student Leadership & 5th Grade Hevra Leadership to address community issues, plan assembly presentations, and organize communitywide events
  • Organize and support adultled and studentled clubs

Supervision and Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with School Counselor to ensure that student mental health and school culture issues are effectively addressed and are part of ongoing curricular conversations and decisions
  • Oversee and direct the hiring process, training, and supervision of Teaching Assistants
  • Serve on the Senior Administrative Leadership Team to best support and address student needs, plan for community events and propose systemic changes to better meet institutional needs and goals

Other

  • Oversee the implementation, growth and development of SAA's athletic program, including the hiring and training of coaching staff, running athletic orientations for parents/studentathletes, scheduling and communication of games, and setting the course for the strategic growth of the athletics department as a fundamental part of student life and learning
  • Teach Physical Education class and serve as a MS advisor
  • Measure progress against strategic aspirations and annual goals re: student life and experiential learning in collaboration with Head of School
  • Work closely with Division Directors, Associate Head of School, and Head of School as a strategic thought partner

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience leading a school or educational program
  • An understanding of Jewish identity, holidays, practices, traditions, culture and life cycle events
