With sports as its foundation, the SuperSTARS Leadership Academy (SSLA) is a high-impact, year-long program that prepares high school girls for college and the workforce through a structured girl-centered approach.

Participants receive the opportunity to participate in unique sporting activities, college tours, and our Peer Coaching and Mentorship Programs.


Job Description:

The Youth Development Coach (Coach) will facilitate sport instruction and activities for the SSLA after school and summer program.

This Coach will develop lesson plans to implement the PowerPlay program model with program participants and facilitate social-emotional learning activities.

The Coach will support the Program Manager in programmatic research and administrative tasks.

The Coach will demonstrate a sense of urgency and help promote a positive image of PowerPlay's core mission, vision and values.

The Coach will be working seven hours per day, four days per week during the SSLA Summer Intensive (July 15th - Aug 23rd) and will work approximately eight hours a week during the Fall, Winter and Spring.

The Coach would work a hybrid schedule where they will attend events, work in the PowerPlay office (or designated site) or work from home.


Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


COACHING AND FACILITATION- Develop lesson plans and activities in advance of programmatic deadlines and share with Program Manager before executing.- Develop and execute programming based on SSLA programmatic pillars (Sports, Health & Fitness, Leadership & Career Development, College Readiness, Peer Coaching, and Mentorship) and PowerPlay NYC's mission and objectives.- Maintain appropriate communication (written and oral communication) and physical boundaries with program participants and staff.- Adhere to proper mandated reporting regarding any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the relevant authorities with support of Program Manager and President & CEO.- Keep Program Manager informed of pertinent site information, including any challenges in fulfilling site responsibilities.- Report site injuries via appropriate forms and immediately communicate incidents with Program Manager.- Communicate with Program Manager regarding conflict resolution, crisis intervention or emotional distress of program participants.- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of program participant information.- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.


ADMINISTRATIVECollect enrollment packets and surveys (at the beginning of programming year, at the end of programming year, and after workshops) from participants.

Workshop surveys should be collected and completed after every workshop.- Utilize Youth Services and Hello Insight to enter data regarding program participants and sites.- Ensure all program participants sign the attendance sheets at every programmatic event (workshops, outings, events, etc.)


Attendance should be logged in to Youth Services for tracking.- Support Program Manager in collecting, tracking, and synthesizing programmatic research.- Lead in programmatic outreach on behalf of Program Manager.- Complete online timecard by required deadlines (in most cases, every other Friday by 4:30pm).


PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

QUALIFICATIONSBasic knowledge of sports and sports facilitation/instruction Ability to identify and anticipate problems, analyze situations and recommend solutions/problem-solve.- Proactive, "can-do" approach/attitude; demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness.- An excellent team player with a positive attitude and the ability to connect and collaborate with others.- Dedication to PowerPlay's mission to empower the lives of girls through sport and creating a positive impact on the lives of youth in NYC.- Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEAssociate/Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience- At least one year of experience working with middle and high school-aged youth.


COMPUTER SKILLSHigh proficiency in Google suite- Intermediate or better proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products and general ability to learn new software.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The usual and customary methods of performing this position's functions require the following physical demands:

  • Ability to participate in light sports and fitness activities
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling so a moderate degree of physical stamina.
  • Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, bending and occasional lifting up to 50lbs.
