Description
The Data Engineer will play a pivotal role in enhancing the data management and IT infrastructure at the university. The responsibilities of this position will include the integration and management of Jenzabar systems, executing domain migration projects on Azure, and optimizing data management solutions. This role demands a blend of analytical prowess, technical expertise, and a keen understanding of data systems within an academic setting. This position will report directly to the Director of Information Technology.

Essential Duties:

Design and manage large, complex sets of data that meet non-functional and functional business requirements.
Collaborate with company executives and other professionals to develop unique data infrastructure, conduct tests to ensure system reliability, and update systems to adapt to changes in organizational needs.
Spearhead internal process improvements including re-engineering infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing dataflow, and automating manual processes.
Build required infrastructure for efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading of data from various data sources.
Develop analytical tools to leverage the data pipeline, offering actionable insights into key business performance metrics including operational efficiency and customer acquisition.
Serve as a technical liaison for stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data, and Design teams, addressing data infrastructure needs and data-related issues.
Enforce data protection laws and compliance standards through regular audits and updates of user permissions, groups, and policies in alignment with data protection laws, university policies, and compliance standards.
Create and maintain a robust data backup and recovery strategy, conducting periodic tests to ensure data integrity and swift and effective recovery capabilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Expertise in database systems, with experience in Jenzabar, and proficiency in building and optimizing data pipelines and architectures
Skilled in conducting root cause analysis on external and internal data processes to drive improvements.
Excellent analytic skills for managing unstructured datasets and designing supportive data transformation processes.
Ability to build processes that support data transformation, workload management, data structures, dependency, and metadata.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across various departments.
Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds or standing or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field; master's Preferred.
A minimum of 6+ years of proven experience in data engineering, IT systems management, or a similar role.
Flexibility to work standard business hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
