    Classified - Position - Support Operations - Transportation

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1. High school diploma or equivalent.
    2. Maintain a current Department of Transportation (DOT) physical, or Alabama School Bus physical, as required by Board Policy.
    3. Three (3) years of experience in a transportation bus shop or three (3) years outside of a transportation bus shop as a bus/truck mechanic or Associates Degree from accredited college with degree in Automotive Service Technology or Diesel Mechanics.
    4. Possess and maintain a valid Alabama bus driver license (BDL) with P/S endorsement and commercial driver's license (CDL) within six (6) months of employment.
    5. Maintain Alabama School Bus Mechanic certification within appropriate time frame available by the State Department of Pupil Transportation.
    6. Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No
    7. Competent written and verbal communication skills; proficient computer skills.
    8. Ability to demonstrate leadership, supervision, and decision-making skills.
    9. Ability to operate and maintain needed tools and diagnostic equipment.
    10. Ability to diagnose mechanical problems, to implement preventive maintenance programs, and to follow safety and recommended rules for efficient shop operations.

    12. Physical strength and agility to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
    13. Ability to exert up to 75 pounds of force.
    14. Ability to furnish personal set of appropriate mechanic's tools.
    15. Ability, agility and stamina to engage in prolonged sitting or standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning and reaching.
    16. Ability and willingness to work indoors and outdoors year-round in noisy, crowded environments, and inclement weather.
    17. Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays when necessary.
    18. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
    19. Such alternative qualifications as listed as the Board may require.
