- Planning and organization of the course, including the syllabus, preparation, textbook acquisition, etc. (unless teaching an Introductory Course class where textbook and guidelines for syllabi are set).
- Administration of tests and assignments and grading those assignments.
- Holding office hours (3 hours per week).
- Adhere to departmental, college and university policies.
- Provide timely feedback and instructor/student interaction in asynchronous online course format with occasions for online office hours and/or Q&A sessions. Regular weekly interaction is expected in online courses.
- Office hours" may include a set time where students can contact the instructor, but must also include expectations for timely responses to student inquiries outside of a set contact time.
- Adhere to departmental, college and university policies.
- Design the course in accordance with departmental guidance and KU standards, which include working with instructional design staff in the Center for Online and Distance Learning.
- Work in a collaborative environment, utilizing the expertise of the other major instructors in the program, unit, or center.
- Complete the course design process within a specific deadline to ensure the course is fully designed and quality reviewed prior to the date the course is to be offered, as determined by the academic department.

Position OverviewThe Communication Studies Department invites qualified scholars and professionals to submit online applications to the lecturer pool to be considered for part-time and/or full-time, temporary and/or regular teaching positions.
These are non-tenure-track members of the faculty whose primary role is instructional.
Application materials will be reviewed by the faculty and placed in a pool for consideration for developing and/or teaching undergraduate or graduate courses consistent with program instructional needs.
Teach a specified number of either undergraduate or graduate courses per semester.

Online Course Developer Duties:
Build an online course for the unit and/or the College Online Programs.
Required QualificationsEvaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in C.V., in Communication Studies or a related field for undergraduate courses.
Lecturers teaching graduate courses are required to have a terminal degree in the discipline.At least one semester teaching experience at the College/University level in Communications Studies or a related field.
Evidence of teaching competence.
Required qualifications for Online Lecturer and/or
Online Course Developer Duties:
in Communication Studies or a related field for course development, OR M.A. in Communication Studies or a related field for teaching undergraduate courses. Lecturers teaching graduate courses are required to have a terminal degree in the discipline.
At least one semester teaching experience in the classroom, or an online course, in Communication Studies, or a related field at the university level.
Must be available to meet on campus with faculty and students as needed.Lecturers teaching undergraduate courses are required to have at least a Masters in the discipline; OR if they hold a Masters degree in a discipline other than Communication Studies they must have completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline or sub-field in which they teach.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications for Regular Lecturer Duties, OR for Online Lecturer and/orOnline Course Developer Duties:
D. in Communication Studies or a related field.
Prior experience teaching in the specific course of interest.
