    Description

    The Andover Public Schools seeks a successful, elementary school administrator with effective leadership, curriculum, and management skills to serve as principal of a comprehensive K-5 school.

    Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Schools, the Principal is responsible for the effective management of the school in order to promote the educational development of each student.

    Responsibilities

    • Supervise the elementary school's educational program.
    • Monitor the implementation of school curriculum. Work with elementary program coordinators and content coaches to ensure content, scope, and sequence which are appropriate for students' learning at different grade and developmental levels.
    • Establishequitable and inclusive practicesthatwillenableallstudentstoachievebasicskilllevelsintheareasof critical thinking, reading, writing, listening, speaking, computation, scientific inquiry, technology, media, artistic expression, health, and physical movement.
    • In consultation with theAssistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning and the Executive Director of Elementary Instructional Operations, oversee the development, revision, and evaluation of curriculum to ensure high academic standards are met.
    Makerecommendationsforprogramdevelopmentandcurriculumrevisiontoappropriate staff.

    • Encourage various inclusive teaching methods and programs to promote student learning and the mainstreaming of special needs students into all core curricula and student activities.
    • Work with the appropriate staff to ensure the integration of curriculum concepts and instructionalmaterialsintotheschoolprogramthatreflects cultural responsiveness,civicresponsibility,community service, historical awareness, and cultural and ethnic diversity.
    • Workwiththeappropriatestafftoimplementandsupervisetheevaluationofinstructional programs and interpret data to improve teaching and learning.
    • Encourageopportunitiesforstudentstoworkinandunderstandtheirneighborhood,its history, and its resources
    • Provideeffective anddynamic leadershipto studentsand faculty
    • Communicate the elementary school's vision, goals, long-range plans, needs, and accomplishments to students, staff, families and the community-at-large. Facilitate communicationbetweengroupseffectivelyinvolvingallpartiesintheeducationalprocess.
    • Delegateauthority toencourage staffinitiative andparticipatory decision -making.
    • Facilitateandimplementeffectiveeducationalpoliciesandproceduresincompliancewiththe initiatives of the Andover School Committee.
    • Establishandenforcehighstandardsofstudentconduct,andenforcediscipline,as necessary, according to due process to the rights of students.
    • Facilitateandimplementcomprehensivestudentsupportservicesandactivitiesgearedto serve the interests and needs of a diverse student body.
    • Sponsorschooleventsforstaff,students,andparents,andcommunitytoparticipatein appropriate areas of the educational process.
    • ActivelyworkwithparentsandPTOmemberstoensureeffectivecommunicationonmatters affecting school policy, program implementation, and student behavior.
    • Provideeffectiveandefficientmanagementofschoolstaffandadministrationfunctions.
    • Interview, supervise and evaluate all certificated and classified staff, with the assistance of K- 12 Teaching Coordinators and the Pupil Personnel Services Administrator.
    • Interview,train,supervise,andevaluatetheAssistantPrincipal.
    • Encourage and support the development of all professional and administrative staff.
    • Assist in the in-service orientation and training of teachers and assure compliance with proper administrative procedures.
    • In consultation with the School Business Administrator, prepare, draft, and revise a comprehensive school budget for classroom teachers, specialists, and all instructional personnel assigned full time to his/her building; prepare this budget with the assistance of teachers and system-wide administrators.
    • Supervisethemaintenanceofaccuratestudentandteacherrecordsthatprotectprivacyand confidentiality and are in compliance with state and federal regulations.
    • Implementschoolcalendar andstudent andstaff schedules.
    • Overseethemaintenance,cleanlinessandsecurityoftheschoolbuildingandgroundsby supervising and working closely with the Senior Custodian(s) assigned to the building
    • Conductmeetings of thestaff as necessaryfor the properfunctioning of the school
    • Perform related duties as assigned or as responsibilities necessitate.
    Qualifications

    • Massachusetts certification as an elementary school principal.
    • Master's Degree. Evidence of study beyond Master's Degree preferred.
    • Substantial experience as an elementary classroom teacher and or specialist Preferred.
    • Experience as an elementary school principal preferred.
    • Effective interpersonal and leadership skills; experience facilitating communication between divergent groups and in group decision making.
    • Demonstrated success in the development, evaluation and implementation of elementary school curriculum and instruction.
    • Effective administrative and management skills.
    • Demonstrated success as a building leader.
    • Excellent speaking and writing skills, including the effective utilization of computers, technology, and information management tools.
    • Previous Elementary Principal experience preferred
