LEAD INSTRUCTOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Communicate curriculum concerns to the Education Department and work with the Learning Design team to schedule course content updates in a timely manner.
  • Implement curriculum and textbook changes into the course content of the hybrid programs.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of third-party tools associated with courses to leverage available resources within the courses and assist new hybrid instructors.
  • Assist with ongoing hybrid projects to enhance the student experience and campus communication.
  • Serve as a liaison and encourage and facilitate open lines of communication between on-ground lab faculty and online hybrid faculty.
  • Assist with regular assessments of student outcomes through retention, student progression, and end-of-course surveys, and make necessary curriculum provisions to reduce student withdrawals and course failures.
  • Participate, and assist with facilitating, continuing education training for hybrid online and lab faculty. Schedule, facilitate, and document regular programmatic meetings of hybrid online, campus lab instructors, and administration, to ensure accreditation compliance.
  • Partner with the Hybrid Assistant Dean of Faculty to mentor and coach new hybrid faculty; assist with remedial training related to program-specific information; provide support with student concerns related to curriculum and programmatic instructor support.
  • Provide substitute or emergency coverage for Medical Assistant courses, as needed. Provide information for, participate in, and review Advisory Board minutes to ensure concerns, student progress, student outcomes, and community satisfaction are communicated to the Hybrid Program Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Instruct students in the Medical Assistant Program foundation courses.
  • Teach and assist with monitoring online courses in accordance with established online instructor guidelines and accreditation standards.
  • Ensure instruction of the foundation courses to achieve syllabus objectives.
  • Provide feedback to students on assignments and additional assistance to those struggling with course content.
  • Monitor student attendance and performance; provide student outreach and support; inform the Hybrid Program Director and designated campus Student Services Coordinator of at-risk students.
  • Maintain an 80% student retention rate for all classes taught in the sequence.
  • Maintain student grades in accordance with established policies. Prepare final grades at the end of the sequence.
  • Remain current with professional trends and advances in technology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or a graduate of an otherwise recognized training entity (e.g., hospital-based program) in Medical Assisting or training from an institution located outside of the United States and its territories in Medical Assisting.
  • Three (3) years of full-time occupational experience in a healthcare facility, including a minimum of 40 hours in an ambulatory healthcare setting.
  • Four (4) years of job-related training and experience for those instructors who are not graduates from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current medical assistant registration or certification through a nationally recognized and accredited certifying agency (CMA or RMA). If applicable in addition to the above criteria, one must have a current license, certification, or other designation as required by local, state, or federal laws to work in the Medical Assistant field.
  • Three (3) years of instruction/teaching experience.
  • Experience as an online hybrid instructor required.
  • Must hold a current teaching license, certification, or other designations as required by local, state, or federal laws.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite, Blackboard, and other computer skills.
