Science Lab Technician

Primary Function:
To perform varied duties to ensure the smooth operation of the science laboratory under general supervision.

Responsibilities:
(1)

Prepare science laboratories:
have all labs prepared and set up in a timely manner, prepare solutions, maintain and operate equipment, maintain and order lab materials, maintain safe, clean and organized laboratories and prep rooms, handle all assigned duties relative to the Right-to-Know compliance effort for the safe use and storage of all hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals, orient adjunct faculty to lab responsibilities and procedures, work with appropriate faculty and staff on lab scheduling for credit and non-credit use to ensure availability and to avoid scheduling conflicts; (2)

Direct student assistants:
delegate student employees' responsibilities and work load, if applicable; (3)

Implement special responsibilities:
perform duties related to department needs, as assigned.

Organizational Relationships:
Responsible to the Dean for performance of assigned responsibilities.

Performance Standards:

Performance in this position is considered satisfactory when: (1) responsibilities of the position have been carried out at a level that ensures efficient and _safe _laboratory functioning; (2) effective cooperative relationships exist with faculty, staff and students.


Qualification:
(1)

Education:
Associate in Science degree required, baccalaureate degree preferred. (2)

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
(a) interest in natural science; (b) organizational ability; c) meticulous, punctual, reliable; (d) able to perform multiple tasks; (e) initiative; (f) adaptability; (g) excellent communication skills; (h) proficiency in College standard software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, as well as other technology systems and tools to support the specific department. (3)

Experience:
some technical experience in a science laboratory setting.
