    Social Worker – Afterschool Program

    We hire for this role in Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Manhattan.

    About New York Junior Tennis & Learning

    New York Junior Tennis and Learning (NYJTL) is one of the largest afterschool tennis and education-themed community organizations in the United States. We offer comprehensive school and community-based programs throughout New York City's five boroughs, serving more than 85,000 youth ages 5-18 every year.

    The NYJTL afterschool program provides children with safe and nurturing environments in which they can learn and thrive academically, while receiving critical support to reach their potential both on and off the tennis court. The NYJTL afterschool program operates in elementary, middle and high schools located in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. NYJTL is seeking dedicated individuals who have a strong interest in working with afterschool programs.


    Position Summary

    Utilizing a strengths-based approach and restorative practices, the Social Worker will deliver a wide range of clinical services and interventions to NYJTL students and families in a developmentally, socially, and culturally aligned manner. This includes providing individual counseling to elementary or middle school students, leading weekly group sessions, and providing additional support to families as needed. They will also provide guidance to the Elementary and Middle School Site Director(s) especially with any crises that may arise. We seek teammates that have a Master of Social Work (MSW) and 1 or more years of experience working with elementary or middle school students.

    Core Responsibilities

    • Able to develop genuine and authentic relationships and work from a strengths-based approach
    • Experience leading group counseling and restorative justice practices
    • Capable of adhering to confidentiality with highly sensitive information
    • Capacity to build strong relationships with elementary and middle school students, families, and staff that are rooted in trust and a strengths-based approach
    • Mentor junior-level social workers on-site
    • Competency in providing one-on-one counseling sessions to students utilizing restorative practices
    • Support Elementary and Middle School staff with behavioral issues or crises as needed
    • Skilled in using evidenced-based practices to effectively develop short-term treatment and intervention plans
    • Participate in bi-monthly case conferences and monthly collaboration meetings with Social

    Qualifications

    • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree required from an accredited school of social work
    • 3 years of post-MSW agency practice experience
    • NYS license (or another state's equivalent) and current registration either as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
    • SIFI (Seminar In Field Instruction)-Certification
    • Fluency in one of these languages strongly preferred: Spanish, Mandarin or Russian
    • Exceptional group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work as part of a team within a school community.
    • Ability to communicate and work effectively and respectfully with diverse constituents

    $65,000 - $75,000
