    Description

    General Responsibilities

    Responsible for evaluating end-user technology system needs to recommend, develop, implement, and support appropriate strategies to meet these needs. Analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate or improve existing systems/applications and design/develop new systems/applications. Utilize a broad understanding of the company programs and customer initiatives to set priorities in work assignments. Studies company computer systems and procedures and designs information systems solutions to help the organization operate more efficiently and effectively. Serve as liaison between business and technical aspects of projects. Plan project stages and assess operational implications for each phase of a project. Monitors progress to ensure deadlines, standards, and cost targets are met.

    Essential Job Functions for Business System Analyst

    Project Management

    • Manage multiple IT projects simultaneously from start to finish.
    • Participate in programs, planning activities, and staff meetings.
    • Develop and update project plans, including objectives, technologies, systems, schedules, funding, and staffing.
    • Monitor project progress to meet milestones, deadlines, deliverables, standards, and cost targets.
    • Direct and coordinate project personnel activities.

    Team Leadership

    • Lead teams of users and staff, assigning duties, responsibilities, and authority.
    • Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

    Process and System Design

    • Create process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts.
    • Develop system test plans and document deployment work plans.
    • Evaluate and support system processes and data structures.

    Application Development and Deployment

    • Collaborate on planning, designing, developing, and deploying new applications and enhancements.
    • Assess and implement end-user technology needs.
    • Lead design, development, and implementation of new applications and system changes.
    • Evaluate and adapt pre-developed application packages.

    System Coordination and Troubleshooting

    • Coordinate and link organizational computer systems.
    • Test, maintain, and monitor computer programs and systems.
    • Troubleshoot and restore program/system malfunctions.
    • Train staff and users on computer systems and programs.

    Document Management

    • Develop and configure document management system features.
    • Administer document and system access rights and ensure security and integrity.
    • Implement electronic document processing, retrieval, and distribution systems.
    • Assist in developing document management policies and consult on access issues.

    Technical Support and Growth Identification

    • Provide technical support for software/applications.
    • Identify new growth areas and propose business solutions.
    • Expand or modify systems to improve workflow.

    Communication

    • Communicate process changes and enhancements to management, peers, staff, and employees.
    • Develop system user documentation and revise design/test procedures and quality standards.

    Risk and Security Management

    • Plan, develop, and implement security standards, policies, and procedures.
    • Recommend ways to control or reduce risk and implement policy changes.
    • Monitor and safeguard data files and computer files against risks.
    • Develop and test business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
    • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance with legal regulations.

    Industry and Market Analysis

    • Analyze technology trends and business intelligence data.
    • Communicate with stakeholders to stay abreast of industry trends.
    • Develop and document system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards.
