Responsibilities:
Assists with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a provider (Physician or Advanced Practice Provider).
- Provide basic patient care as delegated
- Assist in the collection of data and document in the patient chart
- Administering medication and vaccinations under general supervision of RN or provider
- Can assist by taking important patient vital signs, medication history, weight, and follow up with necessary tests that may be ordered after the visit
- Collecting samples (e.g., blood, urine, etc.)
- Assist with wound care
- Assist with the development and revision of a nursing care plan under the supervision of an RN
- Record nursing care given and report to the appropriate person changes in the condition of a patient
- Reinforce the teachings provided by a provider or RN and provide basic health care instruction
- Participate with other health team members in meeting basic patient needs
- Assists with treatments ordered by provider as supervised by provider or RN. Performs select clinical duties for those tasks which they are knowledgeable and competent
- Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
- Performs basic clerical duties including answering the phone, maintaining records, and filing.
- Assists with maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
- Transcribes patient orders as instructed by the provider, including, but not limited to, laboratory tests, radiology tests and medications.
- If applicable to employee's designated licensure and education, inserts and cares for urinary catheters under the supervision of an RN
- Call the physician if needed
Job Qualifications
- Education/training: Graduation from an accredited program as required for corresponding Licensure or Certification
- A minimum of 1 year of OB experience is preferred
- Licensure/Certification: Current license for Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Wisconsin or one or more of the following required:
- Medical Assistant credentialed from the National Health career Association obtained prior to hire date.
- Registered Medical Assistant credentialed from the American Registry of Medical Assistants also accepted.
- Medical Assistant credentialed from the American Medical Technologists (AMT) obtained prior to hire date.
- Medical Assistant credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) obtained prior to hire date.
- Medical Assistant credentialed from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) obtained prior to hire date.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR certifications.
Work Traits:
- Strong verbal skills, concentration, multitasking and complex thinking are necessary to be able to do the medical decision making, understanding of instructions, use of medical terminology/concepts, communication with patients/medical staff and keeping of accurate records that is necessary to this job.
- Formal perception is necessary to observe pertinent detail when reading thermometers, pregnancy tests, blood pressure devices, fetal monitoring strips, and observing a patient's condition.
- Manual dexterity is necessary for easy and skillful use of hands when working with patients and equipment.
- Able to sit at a computer to complete work 810 hours per day
Physical demand:
- Work is high demand.
- Must be able to read and write English.
- Work demand changes from sitting, standing or walking throughout the day.
- There is frequent reaching, handling of equipment/instruments while attending to the patient's needs.
- Assist in transferring, dressing or undressing of patients. Must be able to lift 4050lbs
- Talking and hearing the discussions of patients and staff.
- Near visual acuity for accurate readings of gauges, thermometers, monitor strips, lab tests, medication labels and for recording in patient charts.
- Work environment is inside, clean and that of a professional medical office.
- Close working relationship with MD's/PA's/ARNP's
- Good communication with ancillary stafflab personnel, front desk, chart room, business office.
