Description

Duties:


  • Provide comprehensive office administrative assistance to the manager and subordinate supervisor.
  • Screen all correspondence addressed to the manger and staff.
  • Maintain records and files in accordance with the local Functional Filing System.
  • Provide advice and guidance to the subordinate supervisors in following procedures for preparation of reports, studies and correspondence.
  • Assist subordinate supervisors and their own clerical staff in personnel liaison work to include providing orientation and training on proper personnel administrative procedures.

To Qualify for the GS-05:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) providing customer service and utilizing personal computer with office software; AND 2) experience reviewing correspondence for correct format, grammar, spelling or punctuation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

To Qualify for the GS-06:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Assists providing guidance on programs as it relates to clerical and administrative functions; AND 2) Prepares materials to be able to respond to correspondence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Human Resources, Business Administration/Management or similar field of study.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.

  • This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
