Note:

Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference for all Stamford Public School positions.



General Statement:


The
Coordinator of Family & Community Engagement is responsible for developing, coordinating, and ensuring the effectiveness of systems to promote student, family, and community engagement across the district.

The Coordinator/Director will facilitate and support comprehensive programs to provide parents and those individuals who care for children attending Stamford Public Schools with information about and support to access available resources in the schools and community; promote a respect for the parents and caregivers as partners in education; liaison with all of the agencies providing family and child services and make that information available to families; coordinate and provide support for the school Parent Facilitators; and provide oversight for several additional programs listed below.

The Coordinator of Family & Community
Engagement will be required to work evenings and weekends as needed and to do related work as required.

The
Coordinator of Family & Community Engagement reports to the Associate Superintendent for Access & Opportunity.


Major Responsibilities:


Coordinates all aspects of the following areas:


  • Office of Family and Community Engagement
- _Plan and Implement District Family and Community Programs_
  • Plans and implements family and community serving programs to align with district Strategic Plan; Coordinates trainings and meetings in support of family and community engagement (including Family and Community Engagement Advisory monthly meetings); Coordinates with community agencies to maximize family and community participation with SPS; Establishes protocols and procedures consistent with Board of Education policies; Works with team to define customer service needs and requirements; Works with the Public Affairs Office to coordinate and communicate districtwide family engagement calendar, including PTO meetings, Orientation, Open Houses, Parent-Teacher Conferences.
- _Liaise with All Community Agencies and Programs Serving Families_
  • Conducts training sessions for parents/families and coordinates the use of outside speakers and resources; Maintains a parent/family resource center with print information and media resources and access to professional referrals both inside and outside the Public Schools; Coordinates the development and maintenance of a web page that links to sites and provides information; Facilitates the communications between the individual public schools, central office, and parents, especially in the coordination of resources; Regularly attends community events to represent SPS and connect with community members and organizations (includes evenings and weekends).
- _Evaluate Family and Community Programs_
  • Assesses the effectiveness of family and community serving programs and strategies as well as proposes changes as needed; Gathers feedback and measures program satisfaction; Analyzes stakeholder feedback and identifies improvement opportunities.

Welcome Center
- _ Oversight of daily operations of Welcome Center_
  • In conjunction with the EL Department (in Teaching & Learning), ensures educational, community, registration, socialemotional/behavioral, family engagement, and medical/health services are provided in a single location, the Welcome Center; Collaborates with community partners to provide access to services beyond offerings of SPS; Develops strategies to continue to grow center to meet the needs of SPS students and families.

Specific Program Oversight
- _ Parent Facilitators/Customer Service Providers_
  • In conjunction with building principal, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates Parent Facilitators; Monitors budget for Parent Facilitators; Conducts training to support Parent Facilitators; Develops strategies to share with Parent Facilitators to increase family involvement and to improve communication from school to families; Works collaboratively with principals to support school based family and community events.

- _Registration_
  • Develops and implements systems for the registration of students for school; Supports intake and screening for EL students; Facilitates Residency Dispute Process

- _Climate Survey_
  • Work with outside agencies to coordinate the survey, conduct outreach for family participation (work with schools), and analyze the data.

- _Homeless Liaison_
  • Serve as the district homelessness liaison, including all mandated responsibilities.
