We seek an ambitious and dynamic leader with a verifiable record of accomplishment managing a team of frontline fundraisers and personal Principal Gift development success.

Leading by example, this highly collaborative and accomplished individual will demonstrate strong leadership skills with an emphasis on creating a culture of philanthropy that aligns with the Philanthropy's shared goal of sustained transformational philanthropy for the largest segment of donor opportunity comprised of 75% of the frontline gift officer FTE and accountable to 25 to 35% of annual, divisional gift revenue targets.


This leader will reinforce a culture of authenticity, transparency and collaboration and invest time, focus and attention emphasizing accountability to each donor relationship and each other, and also honors the institution's core values of caring, integrity, discovery, safety and stewardship.

In addition to helping each team member deepen their experience as fundraising professionals, this team member will work to remove barriers for fundraising success and will partner with colleagues from across Philanthropy to ensure all complimentary service lines are integrating seamlessly with the Major Gifts team.


Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Individual Giving and serving as a Team Leader in the Division, the Major Gifts lead will be responsible for managing, mentoring, and training Major Gift squads comprised of frontline, Major Gift officers who office in a hybrid setting.

Partnering closely with the Associate Vice President for Individual Giving, and other members of the Senior Leadership Team, this leader will develop and implement annual plans that increase constituent support with strategic focus on regional development, major gift donor strategy development, constituent alignment to campaign priorities, Board of Visitor member engagement and campaign and priority program formation and education, while monitoring all Major Gift fundraising performance activity to ensure portfolios and all associated team activity is optimized for campaign success.

This leader will refine and establish policies and procedures that enhance and facilitate fundraising best practices, training and consistent follow-through for these team members.

Leading by example, this manager will maintain a small portfolio of Principal Gift prospects, prioritizing opportunities for collaborative teamwork in fundraising while attending to all donors under the leader's management.

Job Specific Competencies

Leadership and Project Management (40%)


Drive execution of strategic plans and lead decision making around donor relationships, special projects and initiatives and the orchestration of strategic approaches.

Continuously capture and collect significant data points, execute on deliverables with precision, develop actionable strategies and allocate appropriate resources to execute work functions

  • Lead, direct, and manage the major gift fundraising officers with emphasis on directing the squad leaders and major gift officer squad members in donor strategy development and fundraising execution
  • Drive fundraising performance through a culture of accountability and collaborate with the Associate VP, Individual Giving on monitoring fundraising metrics, territory equilibrium, portfolio assignment composition and campaign pipeline analysis
  • Enhance MD Anderson's ability to integrate major gift capacity donors into MD Anderson's activities, priorities and initiatives, including new and existing constituents throughout Houston, the state of Texas, the nation and internationally
  • Garner the trust and confidence of the president, academic leaders, senior staff, researchers, faculty, and Board of Visitors through partnering and supporting these stakeholders in the fundraising/engagement process
  • Foster and maintain relationships with team members, faculty, staff and grateful patients and administrative support.
Consultation with Critical Evaluation (30%)

Use critical evaluation skills to interpret information and make business decisions and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Provide strategy, direction, and coordination to major gift fundraisers, emphasizing optimized portfolios that align with the Division's Prospect Management Guidelines and honor the Division's goal of sustained transformational philanthropy
  • Plan strategies to build the pipeline for major gift prospects, working with the individual giving team and other divisional fundraisers to maximize outreach and growth in priority market areas
  • Support the Chief Philanthropy Officer and Associate VPs in executing longrange fundraising / solicitation strategies
