Job Title: Chief Engineer Hotel/Department: MaintenanceReports to: General Manager FLSA Status: ExemptJob Objective: Responsible for the short and long term planning and day-to-day operations of the engineering department.
Key Areas of Accountability:
Develop, implement and direct all Emergency Programs; ensure all equipment is maintained, conduct inspections and drills, ensure compliance with all codes and regulations, train all department employees and maintain accurate records to ensure a safe environment that protects the building, guests and employees.
Develop, recommend, implement and manage the department's budget, forecasts and objectives consistent with maintaining a first class property and management's expectations.
Develop, implement and manage a maintenance program and negotiate maintenance contracts for the hotel and all of the equipment in compliance with corporate/brand standards and local, state and national codes and regulations to ensure the safety, convenience and satisfaction of all guests, managers and employees to protect the asset and maintain the property in first class condition.
Hire, train, develop, empower, coach and counsel, conduct performance reviews, resolve problems, provide open communication vehicles, discipline and terminate, as appropriate.
Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
Participate in committees as requested by the general manager.
Assist with preventive maintenance and complete report work orders such as replacing ceiling tiles, light bulbs, patching vinyl, etc., to maintain the hotel and keep the product quality standard.
Perform preventive maintenance assignments on a scheduled basis (e.g. "suite care").
Assist in checking electrical systems such as air conditioning controls, television sets and lighting systems, and make minor repairs and/or replacement.
Assist in checking and making routine repairs and assist on major repairs of all hotel equipment including small appliances, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, boilers, pool equipment, HVAC, hand and power tools, and general plumbing systems and fixtures such as pipe lines, toilets and sinks, kitchen and laundry equipment.
Service the hotel's pool including adjusting chemicals and cleaning filters, and completing maintenance request forms and record logs.
Maintain the building exterior and "curb appeal" (i.e. snow removal as needed).
Refurbish furniture and fixtures within guest rooms such as cabinets, tables, chairs, doors, windows and counters. Paint and finish furniture and fixtures if needed.
Respond in a courteous manner to all guest questions, complaints, and/or requests to ensure strong guest satisfaction.
Be prepared for exposure to extreme temperatures.
Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis.

Completion of a facilities management program preferred
5 years of experience working in hotels in a maintenance related position
3 years of supervisory experience or three years of experience with the company in a maintenance related position; requires advanced knowledge of building management/engineering.
May require considerable working knowledge of other major areas in the hotel and the skill to integrate and communicate that information.
Requires analyzing activities and/or information involving some original data manipulation or interpretation to arrive at logical conclusions.
Requires management skills and the ability to provide information and associated services to hotel management and guests.
Fluency in English – written and verbal communication. Microsoft Word and Excel skills required.
Any and all state and local age and licensing requirements must be met.
Requires advanced knowledge of building management/engineering. May require considerable working knowledge of other major areas in the hotel and the skill to integrate and communicate that information.
Requires analyzing activities and/or information involving some original data manipulation or interpretation to arrive at logical conclusions.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; HVAC, plumbing & electrical experience or technical training preferred. EPA, CPO and HVAC certifications are a plus.
