The Director of Swimming & Diving is responsible for the overall men's and women's swimming & diving program; determines scholarship value and recruits student-athletes; provides instruction, demonstration, evaluation and teaching of sport to assure individual athletes and team reaches maximum potential.

Monitor the academic progress of student athletes.

Position Details:
Employee will supervise Assistant Coaches and Athletic Trainers. Travel Required. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required to complete assigned tasks. Ability to model movement. Ability to lift, move, or carry heavy objects.


Qualifications:


Required Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years swimming coaching/teaching/professional competition experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • General knowledge of NCAA rules
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use word, spreadsheet, and database programs
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's Degree
  • Previous Division I college head coaching experience

Essential Duties/Tasks:

COACHING - Provide instruction, demonstration, and teaching of sports dynamics to student-athletes to ensure the maximum potential of individuals and the team as a whole. Schedules and conducts regular practice sessions within compliance periods. Coaches team during scheduled events. Determines and implements strategy to obtain maximum level of team and individual performance.

ADMINISTRATION - Supervision of coaching staff as well as management of the roster of student-athletes. Assists in preparation of budget and administration of program. Works within budget guidelines. Determines amount/percentage of Athletic Scholarships and the awarding of said scholarship. Develops the competition schedule, coordinating with teams both inside and out of the Conference. Recommends participation in postseason competition when invitations are received. Oversees the purchase of uniforms and equipment.

ACADEMICS - Works closely with Scholastic Supervisor to monitor the scholastic progress of each student-athlete. Encourages each student-athlete to pursue a career goal and to graduate within a four to five-year period. Ensures student-athletes meet requirements established for athletic eligibility. Assists in enforcement of mandatory study programs for freshman and upper classmen having academic difficulties; enforces Athletic Department requirements for class attendance, make-up course work, etc.

PUBLIC RELATIONS - Participates in media-related activities including newspaper, television, radio interviews and new conferences. Accepts speaking engagements and makes public appearances at schools, Aggie Clubs, banquets, and civic organizations.

STUDENT ATHLETE WELFARE - Demonstrated commitment to student-athlete well-being. Collaborates with Sports Performance Team, including Athletic Trainers, Team Physicians, Strength & Conditioning Coaches, Sports Psychologists, Performance Nutritionists regarding overall health and wellness of student athletes. Coordinates with Strength & Conditioning Coach to determine team and individual performance program. Encourages and promotes use of Sports Psychologist for individual counseling to student-athletes as needed on personal problems, team performance, class schedules and the transition to college life. Develops plans for each student athlete to set and achieve individual goals for improvement of performance.

COMPLIANCE - Maintains continual and thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations. Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations concerning student-athletes: conduct, appearance, road game
