    Summary

    The Associate Planner position within the Data Analytics & Visualization Program Area of the Charlotte Department of Planning, Design, and Development entails supporting the Long-Range Planning Division by offering GIS and analytical aid to various departmental divisions and city-wide projects. This role carries a moderate level of responsibility and involves completing intricate GIS-oriented planning tasks.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities

    • Serve as the main resource for data analytics, visualization, and GIS within the Rezoning Program Area.
    • Create GIS features, maps, and mailing lists to aid the rezoning process.
    • Provide support to other Planning Divisions with data analysis and mapping requests.
    • Assist in data analysis and mapping for significant community-wide initiatives like the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan and the Charlotte Unified Development Ordinance.
    • Build relationships with other city departments to foster collaboration.
    • Ensure compliance with city-wide policies on data publication, maintenance, and security.
    • Embrace continuous learning and self-improvement.
    • Undertake other assigned duties.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Demonstrated proficiency in GIS concepts, creating visually appealing maps, and managing geospatial data.
    • Familiarity with urban planning and land development principles.
    • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
    • Effective communication skills, especially in conveying complex ideas concisely.
    • Ability to multitask and handle diverse responsibilities.
    • Expertise in ArcGIS suite, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Capacity to complete technical tasks accurately under time constraints.
    • Ability to work effectively with moderate supervision.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Political Science, Public Administration, or related field.
    • Master's degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Geography preferred.
    • Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS 10.7, ArcGIS Online, Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with geodatabase data model.
    • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Scenario Planning concepts is a plus.
    • One to three years of professional planning experience required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Architecture, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Political Science, Public Administration, Social Science, or related field.
    • Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS 10.7, ArcGIS Online, Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with geodatabase data model.
    • One year of professional planning experience required.
