    Description

    TARGAN is looking for a Controls Engineer to join its Automation and Controls Engineering group. The Controls Engineer - Sustaining position is a critical role that bridges the gap between field support and R&D Controls engineering. This position will provide valuable and timely remote support for Targan field personnel working at various customer sites. In addition, the Controls Engineer - Sustaining will also serve as a conduit for further refinement of the controls and electrical systems that comprise Targan machinery.

    • Candidate must have the ability to troubleshoot remote PLCs via network connection.
    • Candidate must have a generalized understanding of troubleshooting electro-mechanical machinery.
    • A competent understanding of Ethernet networks is essential.
    • Must be able to read and understand schematic diagrams, line drawings, etc.
    • A baseline understanding of industrial controls languages such as ladder, structured text, function block diagram.
    • A baseline understanding of Human Machine Interface (HMI) software, reading tags from a PLC, and similar.
    • Ability to log into PLC and HMI systems if necessary to help troubleshoot remote systems.
    • Good communication skills: working with field technical personnel, engineers, and others.
    Requirements

    Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer engineering, Computer Science or similar is preferred.
    • Associates Degree, or no degree will be considered based on experience.
    Experience:
    • 3-5 years of experience working in an engineering support role.
    • In lieu of support experience, work in a production environment producing industrial machinery or similar will be considered. Candidates that don't meet the education requirements but have more experience will be considered.
    Additional Qualifications:
    • Work as part of a cross-functional team - required.
    • Understanding of industrial fieldbus systems such as EtherCat or Modbus TCP - preferred.
    • Ability to program HMI and/or PLC systems - preferred.
    • Familiarity with schematic design software such as AutoCad Electrical or Solidworks Electrical to assist with device modifications - preferred .
    Working Conditions:
    • This position will be nominally located at the Targan Raleigh Mid Town facility in the office area. Due to the nature of this position, flexibility will be given regarding where the work will be performed. At a minimum, it should be expected that the job will require periodic travel to the Raleigh Mid Town facility, ideally on a weekly basis.
    • Work at Raleigh Mid Town is performed inside a flex space building consisting of offices, open desk space, laboratory, machine shop, and a manufacturing floor. The level of noise is usually quiet in the office environment and temperature controlled. Noise levels are elevated in the warehouse space where temperatures can vary depending on the outside elements and weather. Travel may be required, including up to 2-8 trips per year to visit suppliers, attend conferences, meetings (customer, investor, and business) and customer sites (hatcheries).
