The RWTH offers training for the profession of process mechanic in the iron and steel industry in two specializations (=FR):
FR "Non-ferrous metallurgy":

• Melting and refining of non-ferrous metals

• Mainly working in foundries or ironworks that produce, for example, aluminum, lead, zinc or nickel. They are also employed in recycling plants. They can also work for manufacturers of tools or parts for motor vehicles.
FR "Iron and steel metallurgy":

• Production of pig iron and steel

• Mainly working in blast furnaces and steelworks that produce pig iron, steel and ferroalloys, as well as pipes or steel bars

• Work in foundries or recycling plants that process iron or steel
They often work at measuring, control and operating stations, at plant facilities for the transport of coal, ore and liquid metal, as well as at melting and steel furnaces.

In the 2017 hiring year, we only offer the specialization "Iron and steel metallurgy".
