Position Summary:


UCLA Law's Communications brings the law school's mission and values to life by inspiring positive action as the school's chief storytellers.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Communications and Director of Digital Marketing & Storytelling, the Social Media Manager assists with conceptualizing, creating, executing, measuring and helping evaluate social media programs for UCLA School of Law.

Primary responsibilities include managing, maintaining and growing UCLA Law's social media channels and ensuring integrated messaging compatible with branding and marketing programs; managing the day-to-day operations of UCLA Law's social media channels on Instagram/Stories/IGTV, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, X, Reddit and more; producing content for these channels; leveraging these channels to strengthen campaigns; amplifying partner content specific to their goals; monitoring for trends and engaging with followers/community; assisting Communications leadership in developing actionable insights from analytics; researching industry best practices for existing and emerging trends in social media; attending events and providing coverage; and crisis communications and reporting.

Duties are performed onsite during normal office working hours and the incumbent maintains consistent and punctual attendance. Working hours may include weekends, evenings, and holidays and may require light travel.

Salary & Compensation:
*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years Professional social media work experience, including demonstrated success using social media to grow a consumer brand with measurable results. (required)
  • Prior experience with social media scheduling, listening and competitive research tools, including Sprout and Dunroe. (preferred)
  • Prior experience producing compelling YouTube and Instagram videos, including dayinthelife vlogs, to build community, engagement, and philanthropy. (required)
  • Prior experience working crossplatform between Mac and PC environments; working knowledge of social media file conversion and specs/ratios. (required)
  • Prior experience scriptwriting, storyboarding and communicating ideas with people who are unfamiliar with video production. (required)
  • Prior experience conducting video interviews, directing and working with onscreen talent. (required)
  • Advanced knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, LinkedIn, GroupMe, BeReal, etc.) (required)
  • Advanced knowledge/understanding of basic marketing principles and strategies. (required)
  • Strong ownership, deadlineoriented and proven proactive management including ability to independently prioritize and track complex, competing schedules; proactively anticipate and complete tasks; and selfinitiate programs (required)
  • Research and analytical skills sufficient to analyze problems in a multifaceted way and to develop and implement innovative solutions as well as track the effectiveness of different techniques. (required)
  • Possess strong internet research skills with the ability to find and compile interesting and relevant content (blog posts, news items, photos, video, etc.) (required)
  • Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a willingness to work across departments to build project teams as well as with external partners. (required)
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, copywriting, and editing skills. (required)
  • Attention to detail, demonstrated capacity for carrying out tasks in an accurate manner, and ability to check own work for accuracy. (required)
  • Familiarity with design, image editing, and multimedia editing programs, such as InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, or other Adobe Creative Suite products, and Canva. (required)
  • Knowledge of University structure and organization, policies and procedures, and staff. (required)
  • Skill in supervising student employees, including hiring, orienting, training, organizing workflow, monitoring and evaluating performance, and coaching and counseling when necessary. (required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Professional Affiliations:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, communications, public relations, or related field. (preferred)
