***: The English Language Development (ELD) Teacher Coach works with ELD and content-area educators, central office staff and school-based administrators to assist educators in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of multilingual learners. The incumbent of this position supports specific schools with coaching and coordinating professional development. The ELD Teacher Coach meets monthly with the ELD Instructional Specialist.

Salary Range:
$60,587 - $135,592

Detailed Description

DUTIES &RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Conducts needs assessments to determine the types of training and resources that all assigned schools need to support their multilingual learners;
  • Develops, coordinates and delivers ongoing professional development around meeting the needs of multilingual learners;
  • Provides intensive coaching and support for both contentarea and ELD educators;
  • Conducts model lessons and informal observations and provides feedback to educators on effective ELD strategies;
  • Supports collaborative planning with ELD and contentarea educators;
  • Consults with contentarea educators of multilingual learners in order to differentiate instruction;
  • Develops ELD curriculum guides, supplementary supports and other instructional materials;
  • Collaborates with other departments to support multilingual learners in all content areas;
  • Aligns curriculum with Maryland Common Core and World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) standards;
  • Establishes positive working relationships with administrators and staff;
  • Integrates technology into ELD instruction;
  • Works with the ELD testing teams to assess multilingual learners upon intake and annually;
  • Attends professional development opportunities on PGCPS program initiatives and topics related to ELD instruction, technology infusion and parental involvement;
  • Assists the Instructional Supervisor in the planning and implementation of Title III special projects; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge and experience with the school improvement process;
  • Demonstrated competency in developing and leading professional development sessions;
  • Ability to work with school teams to exercise initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities;
  • Excellent organizational skills, oral and written communication skills and human relations skills;
  • Demonstrated computer/educational technology skills; including proficiency with Microsoft and Google platforms; and
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule which includes travel to multiple school locations.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
_**Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in applicable field of education required; Master's degree in TESOL preferred. A minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience working with multilingual learners required.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

_ _**Holds or is eligible for an Advanced Professional Certificate in ESOL issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
