This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses. In addition, this position may be eligible for participation and company contributions into the Deferred Compensation Plan.


Definition:


Under direction of the Surgical Services Management to plan, direct and coordinate activities involved in the acquisition, decontamination, storage, assembly, cleaning and sterilization of medical, surgical and related supplies, materials and equipment utilized in the care and treatment of patients at Kern Medical.


Distinguishing Characteristics:

The Central Processing Supervisor provides oversight in the daily operations of the Central Processing department.

Incumbents are expected to have advanced knowledge of all phases of the Central Processing functions and operations supporting the perioperative department.


Essential Functions:


  • Supervises staff in Central Processing to include: scheduling staff, prioritization and assigning work, orienting staff, conducting performance appraisals, making hiring and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Promotes a customer centric approach to all customers of the central sterile department.
  • Financial efficiencies including maintenance of assigned productivity indicator.
  • Able to maintain, prioritize and expedite work flow to meet surgical demands daily.
  • Coordinate with the Director/Supervisor to ensure that all sterilization processes are compliant with State, federal and regulatory and accreditation guidelines.
  • Serves as a resource for information regarding proper sterilization techniques, product information and equipment operation as described in all manufacturers Instructions for Use (IFU).
  • Oversee the accuracy and performance of the Central Processing Team Members.
  • Assist with the maintenance of all policies and procedures required in sterile processing in accordance with the Joint Commission, AAMI and Kern Medical Infection Prevention.
  • Develops Performance Improvement (PI) plans for the Sterile Processing Department. Ensure PI plans are consistent with the Perioperative Department performance improvement objectives.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Employment Standards:


  • Certification through either the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or attainable within six months of employment.
  • A minimum of three (3) years' experience as a Sterile Processing Technician;
  • Possession and maintenance of a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card. _Incumbents not possessing the Basic Life Support card must successfully complete the appropriate training and qualify for the Basic Life Support card within 60 days of employment._

Knowledge of:

Basic mathematics, English grammar and spelling, public relations; sanitation and use of universal precautions


Ability to:

Communicate effectively with all levels of staff; understand and follow oral and written instructions, read, compare and verify information; perform duties in accordance with Kern Medical customer service goals as part of a support service department;
Employees must maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical.

Dependent upon assignment, applicants may be required to pass an extensive background investigation, and be fingerprinted. Disqualification for felony, misdemeanor, and traffic offenses will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
