Under the direction of the Director of Economic & Community Development, this position performs routine clerical work, assist department staff where directed, types reports, purchase requisitions, correspondence, greets the public, answers and takes telephone messages.

Under the general direction of the Economic & Community Development Director work is performed independently within general guidelines.

Guidance is provided through the departmental procedures and city policies, as well as related city ordinances (Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances).

Additional guidance is provided by the City's Municipal Code and City adopted codes, as well as federal, state and local requirements and guidelines, union contracts, City policies and procedures, and generally accepted professional guidelines.

Work is evaluated by the department director, through reports, weekly meetings, verbal and written communications, and annual evaluations.


Essential Functions:

Specific assignment will include some or all of the following:

  • Operate various types of office equipment in a proper manner.
  • Perform routine typing and follow prescribed procedures and format.
  • Type simple correspondence, records, reports, charts, stencils, etc.
  • Maintaining files and records of department's work activities.
  • Answer and take telephone messages in a polite and respectful manner.
  • Provides a variety of general information to the public regarding the functions of the Economic and Community Development department.
  • Prepares monthly reports of work activities.
  • Keeps an accurate file of all incoming and outgoing correspondence.
  • Follow written and oral instructions.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers and general public
  • Life at least 15 lbs.
  • Work in any other department as clerk II
  • Any other clerk II related duties assigned by the Director of Economic & Community Development.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Requires High School Diploma or GED;
  • Requires ability to operate data entry devices to record source material into a computer;
  • Requires ability to type at least wpm;
  • Requires ability to operate various types of office equipment.
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to utilize typical office software and equipment for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations (Microsoft Office), networked files, ability to use internet for research, access to data bases and related information.
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal; ability to make presentations on technical issues that are understandable by the audience; ability to communicate with staff, City officials and the public; ability to prepare correspondence, reports and memoranda containing both technical and non
- technical information.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of individuals and staff throughout the City organization and the community.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision and work in a collaborative manner to accomplish the mission of the department.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret manuals, laws, ordinances, policies and procedures, statutes, codes, rules and regulations, contracts, and similar documents.
  • Strong customer service skills, both with internal customers as well as external customers.
  • Ability to work in a teamoriented environment that encourages participatory management.

Special Licenses & Requirements:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell.

The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 15 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
