Brief Summary of Job Duties
Operating under the supervision of the UCSB MESA Programs Director, the MESA Program Coordinator will have responsibility for the planning, design, implementation and quality control for the Santa Barbara County and Ventura County UCSB MESA College Prep Program (MCP).
Provides academic preparation to K-14 students within the regional UCSB MESA Program, provides hands-on STEM education activities and curriculum, serves as the primary liaison between MESA school site advisors, MESA students, school district administrators, community and non-profit organizations, and serves the UC Santa Barbara MESA Programs Director and the OEP Director.
Specifically, the Coordinator will request, manage, and organize student records; prepare student academic performance plans; provide training workshops for MESA Advisors, students and their parents; track project related expenses; generate site specific budgets; support the identification of external funds; and assist MESA staff with the development of special events, such as college tours, financial aid workshops, student leadership, parent leadership, summer programs, and MESA project and competitions, and awards events.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
1-3 years of significant experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population.
Strong knowledge of up-to-date information on K-12 and higher education policies and issues. Ability to assess their impact on program strategies.
Knowledge of K-12 and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts.
Strong knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements.
Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.
Strong communications (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
Significant experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
50% Project Administration - Working under the general supervision of the MESA Programs Director within the Office of Education Partnerships (OEP), the MESA Programs Coordinator will provide academic and career enrichment, college-bound advising (A-G Course Requirements, Financial Aid), mentorship, and Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education resources to students and families of MESA school partners. Works directly with MESA College Preparation Program Advisors, UCSB, and school leadership to develop, organize, and implement the MESA Schools Program
