    Description

    Job Description: Engineering Technician

    SUMMARY: In this role, the candidate will support the engineering team with research and product development. Activities include testing, fabrication, prototyping, writing reports and work instructions, and training appropriate personnel. The candidate must be able to take direction and perform tasks with minimal supervision.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform testing to support product development, research, and new testing programs.
    • Prepare and manage samples and acquire materials for tests and experiments.
    • Document experiments and results in an organized manner.
    • Assist with the fabrication of new equipment, tools, parts, and machinery for testing.
    • Analyze indicated and calculated results in relation to design or rated specifications and objectives and modify or adjust equipment, components, or assemblies under engineering direction to meet specifications.
    • Review project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problems, and possible solutions.
    • Functionally test and confirm software updates on embedded systems and portable devices. Document bugs for correction.
    • Prepare work instructions for new or updated methods and procedures.
    • Prepare reports for results and findings from tests and experiments.
    • Assist with the implementation of new processes or procedures.
    • Assist with training personnel for new processes or procedures produced by engineering.
    • Work with outside vendors on testing, acquisition of tools or equipment, coordination of materials or deliverables.
    • Manage the lab space and maintain good workplace organization and housekeeping.
    • Comply with safety and operating policies and procedures regarding equipment, materials, and the finished product.
    • Maintain a safe work environment by thoroughly reading and understanding material safety data sheets (SDS), following operating and maintenance instructions for tools and machinery, and utilizing relevant manuals for proper operating procedures.

    • Accomplishes assigned work within a proper time frame.

    • Completes duties thoroughly and accurately.

    • Works and communicates effectively with coworkers and supervisors.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
    • 3 years of experience in a related role.
    • General knowledge of assembly and testing of mechanical-electrical systems and controls.
    • General knowledge of software programs and testing software.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Ability to speak and read English effectively.
    • Good technical skills and mechanical aptitude.
    • Experience with instrumentation and control systems.
    • Experience with operating 3D printers.
    • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, material safety data sheets (SDS), operating and maintenance instructions, and any relevant manuals.
    • Working knowledge of raw materials and handling.
    • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Good oral and written communications skills.
    • Ability to take instructions and learn new processes and procedures.
    • Ability to think independently and to innovate.
    • Ability to work in a group as well as independently.
